3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but Not the Best of the Books.
This book disappointed me because of how briefly the Chris Redfield part of the story was handled. The bulk of the game is about Claire, but I had hoped the author would embelish Chris's journey more. It's so brief, it's very forgetable. There is bearly any tension, development, or conflict.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books in the series, November 26, 2002
This review is from: Code: Veronica (Resident Evil #6) (Mass Market Paperback)
S.D. Perry's novelizations of the Resident Evil video game series have been excellent mostly, and this volume in the series is no exception. Code: Veronica, the sixth book in the series, is based from the video game of the same name which you can find on the Dreamcast and PS2 game systems. Perry adds so much more to the story and characters than the writers of the game's storyline ever could; the suspense and shocks make it a page turner and you genuinely care for the heroes. The story starts as Claire Redfield (one of the survivors of City of the Dead, the third book in the series and the second game in the video game series) is captured by Umbrella and sent to an uncharted island where she is kept prisoner until, as luck in the Resident Evil universe would have it, all hell breaks loose and zombies and monsters are abound. Eventually she meets up with another prisoner, Steve Burnside, and the two become allies trying to escape, all the while Claire's brother Chris is on her trail to save her. The relationship between Claire and Steve is compelling, as is the sense of urgency that is at an all time high here. While I think some parts of the ending get more and more unbelieveable, Perry's novelization remains faithful to the game it is based on, and if you've never played the game you'll want to after reading this. All in all, Code: Veronica is one of the best in the series (books and games respectively), and if your a fan of anything Resident Evil then you have no reason not to read this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second best in the books series, but best in game series, December 11, 2001
This review is from: Code: Veronica (Resident Evil #6) (Mass Market Paperback)
What can I say, it's Resident Evil Code: Veronica. So far this has proved to be my second favourite book in the series, next to of course the umbrella conspiracy. Very well detailed, lots of action and the scene with Wesker and Chris is a classic. The only two things I have to say disappointed me was the lack of attention Chris Redfield recieved. There should have been more pages about his scenario of events, like the game. The book should have also focused on Residetn Evil Code: Veronica X for the ps2; then there would have been the amazing fight scene at the end between Chris and Wesker. Also Claire would have met Wesker instead of being totally clueless as to his exsistance. This book was awesome, if you haven't read it, then I suggest you should.

4.0 out of 5 stars Itchy. Tasty., February 4, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Code: Veronica (Resident Evil #6) (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a HUGE Resident Evil fan, and have read all six resident evil books. This was one of the best books I've ever read. The majority of the book which involved Claire and Steve on Rockfort was great, as was the way Perry wrote from Alfred's point of view. I also like the part where Chris found about Claire being on Rockfort. I gave it a four because, while it was a great book, I would've liked to have seen more action with Chris. Chris's part was incredibly rushed. And Wesker had almost no relivance what so ever. Perry should have used the CVX version of the game to base the novel. That way the scene with Claire and Wesker would've been included, as would the incredible fight scene between Chris and Wesker. Most of the bosses from of the game were excluded. Still it was a great book and is a great read for any resident evil fan.

For those of us who have remained stalwart and fierce fans of the Resident Evil saga in gaming (despite the Survivor fiasco), these books are indeed a welcome additive. S.D. Perry remains a wonderful writer who does complete justice to the series, and gives us insights into our favorite heroes' (and villains') minds. When most games are made into books (or even movies--hint, hint), they tend to get over commercialized and lose a lot of their appeal.....or even worse, stray so much from the original storyline that it becomes barely recognizable as the game we know and love. But thankfully, this is not the case. And let me just say--this is not a "guy thing". That's because I'm a girl (obviously :P) and I still remain enraptured by the entire series (or maybe it's just Wekser...nah, gotta be the series). This book is definitely one of my favorites in the horror genre. It's too bad I couldn't say the same about the movie........

SD Perry once again tells the story from the points of view of all the major characters. We learn much more about the Asford twins that the game reveals. But Chris and Wesker were poorly under-developed. Perry probably wrote this story before the PS2 expansion game, "Resident Evil Code: Veronica X." Perhaps if the book could have been based on the V-X game, things would have been better.

Don't listen to folks that complain about the "lack of scariness" in the story. These books are made for Res. Evil fans. If you're reading the books, you've probably payed the games. If you've played the games, you know what will happen in the story. I read the books to learn more about the characters, not for the fear. Which is why I was so disappointed with the story's ending.

I've written a review for the other 5 Resident Evil books. I recommend all the books for Res. Evil fans. I just feel this book, wasn't the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly well written, gruesome and heart-stopping!, May 29, 2002

This review is from: Code: Veronica (Resident Evil #6) (Mass Market Paperback)
I couldn't ask for a better survival/horror/thriller! I found myself completely enveloped in the book from beginning to end. And the heroine, Claire Redfield, is amiable, well-developed, believable and interesting to those of the opposite sex ;)

For those who follow the Resident Evil series, whether in video games or by books, you will remember Claire Redfield from Resident Evil 2 or "City of the Dead."

The young, 19 year old, has gotten herself in even deeper than her first adventure in Raccoon City ("City of the Dead") after she travels half way across the world to Paris in search of her brother, Chris Redfield, a missing S.T.A.R.S police member whose last known whereabouts were in France. Claire finds herself at a dead end once she reaches Paris, only to find Chris is not there. Instead, after infiltrating a head intelligence agency, Claire finds a gun to her head and herself in a VERY bad situation. The girl is roughly apprehended and taken to an extremely secluded military base located in the middle of the ocean, Rockfort. A mysterious facility in which secret experiments have been conducted to create dangerous creatures to be used in war, is filled with gruesome images of death and horror that make the gut cringe. The things Claire sees would scar just about anyone for life, but will have the reader constantly turning the page.

Our heroine, Claire, is thrown deep into the middle, when, just with her arrival to Rockfort, a special forces team, attacks the island, destroying many of the buildings and causing a toxic spill, which infects the island inhabitants, turning them into the blood-craving undead.

But the undead are the least of the girl's problems as the master of Rockfort, Alfred Ashford, a descendant of the rich-blooded Ashford family, believes Claire is a threat to his family and to his beloved sister, Alexia. He unleashes a hord of terror-envoking creatures to dispose of Claire in hopes to allow him time to unfold his master plan involving his mysterious and never-seen sister Alexia.

The book experiments with views of all the characters. You dive deep into the mind of the often humurous and constantly calculating Claire Redfield, experience the pains of a fellow prisoner and friend Steve Burnside, and cringe with the thoughts of the sadistic Alfred Ashford. Amazing fast paced action and red-herrings were around EVERY corner of this book that I found myself struggle to close it. Your mind is constantly working to solve the puzzles and cope with the struggles of all the characters. And for those who have been primarily connected to the video games, the books dive deeper into the characters themselves as you find out much more about Chris, Claire, Leon, Steve and maybe a little too much about the derranged brother and sister, Alred and Alexia Ashford. This is truly one of the best science fiction novels I have read and I was truly sad when I had finished it, but I will not give away the new experimental creatures or the ending so you can enjoy it for yourself. Perhaps a possible sequel is still in store for Chris and Claire? Oh I hope so! :D

I thought this book was good but for some reason it just felt a little rushed. I think that she should've spent a little more time in detail about how Chris got to Antartica also. But the way she writes from the evil persons point of view is also superb. She knows exactly how they think and act. But, instead of just reading these reviews, buy it!!!

S.D. Perry is definately my favorite author as of now. I picked up the first RE book a while ago, and since then i have read them all, after beating all the games. The Author does a GREAT job putting it into book form, while still keeping the reader in totaly suspence. This book in perticular allows you to really know what every character is thinking after playing the game, and is really amazing. i couldn't put it down, i reccomend this book to everyone. (...)

It tells the story well, and adds a human emotion to it that the game did not go into. Though, it seemed to rush at the end
