This review is from: The Code of the Warrior in History, Myth, and Everyday Life (Paperback)
A lot of nice short stories illustrating various warrior qualities. Many full little insights into various cultural history from the warrior perspective. Chapters include:1) Warriors Before war 2) The 1st Warrior 3) Warrior Kings of Sumer 4) Indo-Europeans 5) The Aryans 6) The Taoist Solution 7) Martial Arts in China 8) Knights 7 Chivalry 9) Samurai & Bushido 10) Crazy Horse & the Sioux Warrior 11) The Loan Warrior 12) The Woman Warrior 13) The Warrior & the Business Person (Is this a joke??) 14) Bringing the Warrior Down to Earth This is a fun book that is not to be taken too seriously. Good intro book to the subject and to its credit there really is some good stuff. One example why I gave it 3-stars, from the caption at the start of Chapter 9: "Bushido, I have found out, lies in dying. -Hegakure" Not my typo above. Here's the actual quote he was aiming for from The Hagakure: "The Way of the Samurai is found in death." -from the 2nd entry. Here is a more positive example of a quality quote: "When you go on the warpath, look out for the enemy and do something brave. Do not make me ashamed of you. Study everything you see, look it over carefully and try to understand it. Have good-will toward all your people. Tell no lies; the man who lies is a weakling. He is a coward. Keep an even temper and never be stingy with food. In that way your name will become great." White Bull, who rode with Crazy Horse, was given that advice by his father. Pretty good. Take it or leave it.
