all time favorite,
By John Delly (Elkland, MO United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Code of the West (Zane Grey's New Western) (Hardcover)
CODE OF THE WEST is my all time favorite. I reread it two or more times a year. RAINBOW TRAIL and RIDERS OF THE PURPLE SAGE are two of my other favorites. A man might break every law of the territory, state and federal government, but he took pride in upholding his own unwritten code. All of Zane's character up held code of the west or they were social outcasts.

A sincere reminder of life in a simpler time.,
By Jon Allen (newid@juno.com) (Norwest Arkansas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Code of the West (Zane Grey's New Western) (Hardcover)
Zane Grey writes of a time when everyone lived simply and men were known by their integrity and honesty. A man's word was his bond, and a real man respected and honored women. He tells of a time when one's character was more important than how much money he had or how privileged he lived. He believed in God and was genuinely thankful for every good thing that came his way.

A Great Western,
By J. Blackhorse (TX, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Code of the West (Zane Grey's New Western) (Hardcover)
Zane Grey is often overlooked but he is truly a great western writer. Grey speaks in a voice that is down to earth, honest and simplistic. He gives us true insight into the mind of country people from long ago. People were good and love was pure. This is a fish-out-of water story about a wild city slicker girl that is forced to come to the country to stay with her sister. A country boy falls in love with her and tries to win her over. A great old fashioned story.

Awesome western,

Zane Grey was a true story-telling master and this book is a prime example. It is exquisitely written and carries the reader away immediately...as the book starts with a bunch of hard bitten westerners joking each other and trying to verbally turn the tables on each other. The dialog is fascinating and reveals the hand of a master. There is a great little romance in the story too as a flirty Eastern "Flapper" girl comes to the tonto basin and meets up with hard honorable men that can't be trifled with...it's really a great read. Hope you can find a copy on Amazon or Alibri...I think it's out of print. I found mine in a used bookstore. I also have no idea with one reviewer said it was not well written? Maybe he needs to keep a dictionary close by for the hard words...
