Product Description

CodeNotes provides the most succinct, accurate, and speedy way for
a developer to ramp up on a new technology or language.
Unlike other programming books, CodeNotes drills down to
the core aspects of a technology, focusing on the key elements needed in order to implement it immediately. It is a unique resource for
developers, filling the gap between comprehensive manuals and
pocket references.

CodeNotes for ASP.NET is a revolutionary update to Microsoft’s Active Server Pages. This edition explores how Web applications and Web services can be developed using ASP.NET. The .NET architecture, Base Class Libraries, ASP.NET form designer,
Web controls, and cross-page and cross-language debugging
are discussed. Scaling ASP.NET to multiple servers,
state management, security, and methods of enhancing performance are also covered.
This edition of CodeNotes includes:

• Real-world examples
• “How and Why” and “Bugs and Caveats” sections that provide
workarounds and tips on what should be taken advantage
of or avoided
• “Design Notes” illustrating many of the common use patterns for
Java programs
• Instructions and classroom-style tutorials throughout from experts

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb and succinct intro, August 28, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: CodeNotes for ASP.NET (Paperback)
This is the best book I've read in the CodeNotes series and a superb introduction to ASP.NET. The CodeNote authors have really mastered their craft by now and it shows with this book. All major aspects of ASP.NET are covered including security, caching, web forms, and session storage. What is most impressive about this book is how well written it is, which makes it easy to digest all the new technical topics. I wouldn't recommend this book as a reference, but as a starter guide I can't imagine a quicker way to ramp up on the technology.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good book but dated, October 23, 2011

This review is from: CodeNotes for ASP.NET (Kindle Edition)
Started reading this book today and at first thought it may be a good read but it didn't take long for me to realize that the book was 'very' dated. The book was making refs to things you could do once the .net server is released. That only the beta version was being used during the time of writing. The first version of the .Net server was released in Feb of 2002. I guess I should have paid attention to the publishing date (August 13, 2002) for this book. As I kept reading though the book I was finding many things that were dated and, in many cases, no longer in use. I didn't want to spend my time going over old technology and having to parse through what is still relevant today. I'll remember to pay attention to the publishing dates from now on.
