A very Beige cd, July 26, 2001
This review is from: Coded (Audio CD)
Well, this very recent compilations features a variety of talent not seen in any other compilations in stores. I don't know who thought this up, why it's called "Coded" or anything else about the origin. All I know is that it's filled with artists and songs that I love, and others that I want to learn more about.
It begins with "The Future" by Cohen, a brilliant masterpiece by the man with the golden voice. It continues on with a variety of artists I couldn't live without including Tom Waits, Jeff Buckley, Johnny Cash and The Velvet Underground. All of which are masters in what they do, and none of which are typical musicians.
I mainly enjoyed this album so much because it defines my taste in music. I had many friends telling me that the album must have been personally designed for me. I'm sure this would be the same for many listeners, all these songs have a certain place in your listening repertoire.
It seems that this album is directed towards fans of these types of artists. If this is the case, which it most likely is, then the songs on it should be more unreleased or rare material. Most of the songs on this I have in my own record collection, and could do up this same compilation if I put the time to it. I'm sure that most people who are fans of this music could manage to put together a very similar album also. This would be the best compilation ever if it had this improvement.
I can almost guarantee that anyone who likes two or more of these artists should definitely purchase this cd and be able to span off into many directions after all these other great artists. They are all the best in the field.
