Ces Cru are back, and they brought that Strange Hop again! This is a great follow up to last year's Constant Energy Struggles. If you were a fan of that album, you will be blown away by this one.

1. Fate - This album kicks off much the same way their last album did, with a lyrical assault intro track. Godemis' verse on this track really stands out, as he describes an exchange between himself and a clerk rhyming "She said it was a curse to be perfect without a purpose" which feels like a revelation about today's youth. He then transitions into a bit of self reflection.

2. Jimmy Stewart - This track opens up with Godemis just tearing it up. I really like the hook provided by Ubiquitous. This entire track is a prime example of why these guys are such a great lyrical duo, with little to no competition in the current rap game. This kind of hip-hop takes me back to the early days when it was just about being a good lyricist and discussing what's going on in the world. You won't hear these guys rapping about cars, money, etc.

3. Sound Bite - A defining track for Ces Cru. This track is another example Ces Cru's lyrical dexterity, rhyming over a signature beat that you've come to know and love from these guys. This is the first single released from the album and I've had it on repeat since it came out.

4. Whips - This is a great track using a car chase as a metaphor for their place in the rap game. This plays perfectly with the first few tracks and is a great transition for the next few. Ubiquitous has several great lines here, specifically "I BYOB, I Bang Ya'll on Beats".

5. Give it to Me - This track has a great beat, with the early 90's feel, a throwback to the golden era of hip-hop.

Ego Stripper is the evolutionary decendent of Constant Energy Struggles. Its one of those albums that you need to listen to multiple times to really absorb its poetic and lyrical content. Ubi is an intellectual who delivers each line / bar with earnest passion think Michelangelo meet Professor Charles Xaiver, while Godemis is the embodiment Shakespeare and Mumm-Ra conjuring relentless rhymes and metaphors from his dark psyche.

Another tightly laced album from this KC duo. Ubiquitous and Godimus both come with great vocal power and intricately written lyrics. The production of these beats and the mixes continue in the Strange Music: bass heavy and melodic, with hard retro drumlines and snappy high hats. Excellent release from Ces Cru!

I'm so ridiculously fangirl over this album. I loved Constant Energy Struggles and this album is a notch up. On a WNL (whole 'nother level). Too many tracks I love to name a favorite but I must say on first listen through, Que Lastima was it.

Best hip hop album of 2014 so far. For that asap wanker dude that said this has been the worst year in hip hop & anyone that agrees needs to take a listen to this. It has replay value for years and years to come.
