Editorial Reviews

Sounds like a robot making love to a tree. Ghostland Observatory is not a band, but an agreement between two friends to create something that not only heals their beat-driven hearts, but pleases their rock 'n roll souls. The duo of front man Aaron Behrens and producer/drummer Thomas Turner have released three successful albums in just a few years and have earned a massive following of dedicated fans. They have headlined many national and international festivals, and regularly sell out legendary music venues across the country with their much-talked-about live performances. Behren's vocal style and stage performances are unique and uncompromising, and he has drawn early comparisons to Freddie Mercury and Prince. Turner is heavily influenced by electronic artists such as Daft Punk, Laurent Garnier and Green Velvet, as well as rockers such as The Animals, David Bowie and The Clash. With their spectral blend of electronics, drums, guitar and vocals, they have emerged with a sound that is the culmination of past influence and present inspiration, and can only be described as Ballsy.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Codename AWESOME October 26, 2010
Format:Audio CD
Long time Ghostland fan. This album is a departure from their normal, intense, complicated style. It reflects a more toned down, simplified sound, and god d*mn.
I love it.

Dance tracks (Freeze, Glitter, Give me the beat), some weird stuff (Codename: Rondo= hilarious, btw), and a few chill songs that were quite unexpected.
Overall, very happy with the new record. There's a robot invasion in my ears right now.
It's serious

5.0 out of 5 stars Kickass new cd by GLO November 19, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ghostland Observatory sends out their 4th cd to us adoring fans. And we welcome it with open arms!! I love this cd, it is musically minimal, different from the previous 3. But it fits right in with their stage show which has turned into a lazer extravaganza. 4 of the songs could be singles, Glitter, Miracles, Codename Rondo (which is performed spoken word), and Freeze (my fave).
Interspersed are: That's Right, Give me the Beat, Body Shop (hope they do this in concert), Mama, Time and the rave to end all rave songs, Kick, Clap, Speaker! Many people were turned off by this cd, but I don't see why. Why follow any band with the expectation they are going to do what you want??? Just keep an open mind, something many people who listen to music don't have. They are mired in the detritus of the 60's (still, it's unreal) and don't want to change. I embrace them, they want you to have a good time! OTOH the band wants people to either love them or hate them, no middle of the road. I think they achieved that....

5.0 out of 5 stars New Heights for Ghostland Observatory October 25, 2010
By ausber1
Format:Audio CD
The duo of Ghostland Observatory always seems to surprise and never disappoint. Codename: Rondo is one of the most unique and entertaining records that I have heard in recent years. From the opening in the first track "Glitter" to the surprise in the last track "Kick Clap Speaker", the album is solid and diverse throughout. Standout tracks are "Body Shop", "Codename: Rondo" and "Miracles". Excellent work, Ghostland. I highly recommend this record.
