From Library Journal
In Winners and Losers ( LJ 3/1/89), Senator Paul Simon (D-Ill.) wrote about his quest for the presidential nomination. Codename: Scarlett , the Secret Service designation for the Senator, is Mrs. Simon's account. A former state politician in Illinois and a social activist in her own right, she was prepared to speak on such issues as civil rights, adult illiteracy, library service for small communities, and pay equity for women. The book consists mainly of memorable events of her year on the road: planning her daughter's wedding; speaking before groups of all types, often in out-of-the-way places; preparing for TV interviews; coping with lost luggage; experiencing an auto accident; and, finally, returning to a normal life. Libraries having Winners and Losers shouldacquire this complementary account as well. Recommended.
