BEST THING FOR CPC (AAPC) REVIEW ON MARKET,
By Plano "Wildcat Fan" (Plano, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: CPC Coding Exam Review 2009: The Certification Step, 1e (CPC Coding Exam Review: Certification Step) (Paperback)
I used this book to review and practice my test taking skills with using the enclosed CD in this book. I passed the test on my first try - but that does not mean it was easy to do. I spent 5 weeks after I completed a 6 month Continuing Education course in Medical Coding at a local community college. I felt that I did not get the proper testing skills or information to pass the test from the class instructor during the main courses so opted out of the classroom version of the CPC Exam review. After researching many book reviews on different CPC Exam books, reading forums by those certified by the AAPC, and asking a lot of questions to those who had taken the test -- I chose to use this book by BUCK to use for test practice. I mainly used the CD and did not do all the reading in the book. I scheduled time to take the tests in a simulated environment (at home) as though I would be taking the real CPC exam - the practice tests will require time as though you would be taking the real test. Make sure you are using current CPT manuals as guides for the test (or at least have the updates written in your book). Also make sure your books are tabbed to make quicker reference access (do not overtab though). TIME IS THE THE KEY FACTOR IN COMPLETING THE TEST !!! PRACTICE, PRACTICE, and do more PRACTICE before taking the real thing. Once you complete all the practice tests on the Buck CD -- it will let you print out those you missed and review the questions. Then you can see and understand the logic behind the test designers are trying to get at - and I found the same type logic was on the real test. You MUST put the time into practice tests and reviewing your misses !!! I also found that writing in pencil in the CPT books the info that I was less comfortable in (definitions, etc.) helped me with things like anatomy, etc. REview your CPT and ICD books also and be very comfortable on where to find answers quickly. But most of all the practice tests from the Buck CD is what put me over the edge to passing... GOOD LUCK !!!

Carol Buck CPC book,
By CPC Certified! (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: CPC Coding Exam Review 2009: The Certification Step, 1e (CPC Coding Exam Review: Certification Step) (Paperback)
This book is great! I mainly used only the cd for the test questions (you get 3 tests, and each test is 150 questions AND it lets you know where you are time wise which is critical for the test). It pretty much mimicks the CPC test for certification. I practiced the cd for 2 months, and when the test came, I was nervous, but passed! When I go for my next certification I will definately first look to see if Carol Buck has put out a study guide on it.

This study guide is,like other Carol Buck textbooks, very comprehensive. It has several practice tests, three electronic and one paper version. This text, however, is only affective if the person studying has had some previous education or experience in Medical Billing and Coding. I am a MBC instructor and I would recommend this text to my students.
