Product Description

Flavor: Nicaraguan | Size: 5 Pound

Nicaragua is a fairly new entry into the coffee export world (the late 1800s, which qualifies as “fairly new” in the world of coffee!), and has made quite a splash already. Some experts say that this coffee can give Kona a run for its money, but only time will tell. The SHG (Strictly High Grown) grade here is especially important, as the highest grown coffees of Nicaragua do not develop the high acidity that is associated with many Central American coffees. This is a very well balanced cup, featuring a mild body, light acidity, and excellent aroma.

Customer Reviews

The coffee is very nice full flavor and not bitter.

Thought I would give this a try to save some money over buying small bags of coffee beans from local shops, and glad I did!

I'm not a coffee snob, other than I like to grind my beans fresh and use a French press. I'm generally on a budget, but I haven't been completely happy with what's available at the supermarket - either quality or price. I decided to give this a shot because of the price and reviews, and I'm glad I did.

First, this coffee smells incredible - it's almost reminiscent of popcorn, in a way. But I can't really describe the earthy, toasty smell other than it's the best smelling coffee I've ever encountered. I'm not too familiar with low acidity coffee, but this brews up with great, complex flavor, but it's also incredibly smooth and has good strength. After brewing this several times I'm finding that I like it more and more with time. It's just a wonderful, satisfying cup of coffee to have at home. To me it's much, much better than anything I can find at the supermarket, and you can't beat the price.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

I'm a fairly awful and dedicated coffee snob but I go through so much coffee I thought it was worth giving a product that doesn't start with an "S" a try just to give my wallet a little relief (granted, if I'm going to unnecessarily spend money on anything, it will be good coffee). I do have a strong preference for thick and smokey French roast flavors in the morning that linger with me and I grind the whole beans like I'm making Expresso. Anyway, short story is that I'm on my fourth five pound bag. For me, that's an very favorable review.

Purchased these on saturday night and received them on tuesday, the beans are SUPER oily, which i really like and the roast on them is a really good french roast. Produces a full bodied coffee with a slightly sweeter note than im used to, but for 27 for 5 pounds this is great for my everyday coffee.

Flavor Name: Indian Monsooned MalabarSize Name: 5 Pound Verified Purchase
We've been drinking Monsooned Malabar coffee from Coffee Bean Direct for about four years, first ordering 5 pounds monthly from the roaster and about a year ago switching the order to Amazon's subscription service. We've been disappointed with the decreasing quality of flavor and freshness of the coffee, not knowing whether it might be due to a greater delay from roasting to delivery or the manner in which Amazon stores it.

To check our perceptions, we again ordered directly from the roaster, Coffee Bean Direct, and found its coffee to have the flavor of Monsooned Malabar we originally enjoyed. But it comes at a cost. With the higher price of the coffee itself plus shipping charges, we paid significantly more ($46.25 compared to $33.81 for the Amazon subscription).

We're disappointed with the product we've gotten through Amazon lately, puzzled by the decline in quality, and debating how to proceed.

I've been a chef now for over 18 years and was very skeptical about ordering coffee, organic coffee for that matter, online. When we got it we immediately opened it and vacuum packed and portioned the coffee, it comes in a 5lb. bag. Up until the very last bean, they were all full of flavor and taste so much better than anything I have bought in a store. The roasting process does NOT burn the bean, it simply brings out the wonderful volcanic aromas surrounding Nicaragua.

This coffee is very good. I read the reviews on how the acidity is low and won't bother the stomach and it is true. No indigestions or acidy burney feelings.
We enjoy a cup or two each morning and we will order again. Makes wonderful ice coffee with left overs. Enjoy!

We go through coffee at an alarmingly fast rate. This French Roast is great. We think the price and the beans are terrific. Good coffee, good value.

The beans are dark and oily. Coffee tastes fresh, rich, dark

Possibly the smoothest full flavored coffee I've ever tasted. It has a wonderful mouth filling quality with not even a hint of harshness. It is NOT a weak or wimpy coffee, it's rich and very flavorful. I just love this coffee in my thermos too because it's just wonderful black and holds well.
