Great mug. So-so lid,

This review is from: The Eco Coffee Cup Set/3 Ceramic Cups With Silicone Lids & Sleeves 12oz (Kitchen)
I received a set of three as a gift and was very excited, as I've been looking at similar ceramic travel mugs for a while. The mug keeps my tea hot for the 20 minute commute into work and isn't stained easily when I accidentally leave my tea leaves in the bottom for the night.
The downside of this cup is the silicone used in the lid and grip. It smells when it comes in contact with warm/hot liquids and despite a soak in diluted vinegar, retains this odor after a week of washing and use. Both the teal and brown color (sleeve and matching lid) smell of a distinctive "this is some chemical that will taste horrible and totally ruin the enjoyment of your tasty beverage" from ~ 10 inches away when heated. I can't imagine sipping through the lid with this one and this limits the on-the-go aspect. Mine basically transports tea from my home to my work, when I remove the lid and drink from just the cup. Perhaps washing the lid with lemon juice will help as suggested in other similar cup reviews. My lids seem to fit snugly and the cup has a lip, similar to real coffee cups. Just be sure to take care to pop the lid on all the way and run your finger around the outside to ensure everything is snug. The flexible lid makes it easy to pop one side on and not notice that the other side isn't entirely secure. There's no "snap" sound like plastic lids would give. I don't know if the lid leaks when drinking from it. Even if I am able to get rid of the smell, I'm not sure I trust that it is safe... food grade silicone probably shouldn't smell like this when warm. I might just replace it with a smell-free "Magic lid", basically an airtight lid that looks like a flat round stopped that seals the mug through pressure. Have not yet opened the lime green cup or microwaved mine.

Now my wife, son and I don't have fight over a "favorite" coffee mug in the house...the only one that I didn't chip while washing. This 3 pack is sturdy and now each one of us has one.
Ummm, but I'm sorry Amazon. Costco Warehouse is selling the same item for $14.99

We wanted travel mugs to use with our new Keurig coffee maker, so everyone can grab a cup and go. These mugs work well. The mugs are dishwasher and microwave safe and the lid makes these leak resistant when on the go. Everyone loves them.

They are very convenient for busy people who need to reheat their coffee in the microwave. You can put them in the dishwasher too. Most commuter mugs should be hand washed and cannot go in the microwave. I have had no problems with these mugs. They work great.

I have a similar product that was purchased at a health food store, and I love it. The lid has a tight fit, it holds a decent amount of liquid, and it fits in a cup holder. So I ordered this three pack hoping for a similar product. It wasn't. The lids are not great, they work for the most part, but they are easily opened, resulting in spilling. Also, it claims to hold 12 oz, it does not. Maybe the total volume is 12 oz, not including the double walled construction. It holds 8 oz at most (I've measured). Personally, for 8 oz, it will not take me long enough to drink where I require the double wall. So over all, I use them when my favorite is in the dishwasher, but I would definitely not order again or recommend to anyone.

I purchased these as a gift for my husband. He likes the brown and green mugs, but the blue is a little feminine. We use them with the large setting on our keurig coffee maker, and it fills it up just about to the top. They don't keep the coffee very hot for long, so don't expect it to be hot by the time you get to the office, drink it along the way! Works great at home. The only downside to these mugs is that the lids sometimes don't go on as easily as I would like. Also the lids retain the odor of the dishwashing soap after going rough the dishwasher. I would recommend hand washing.

It's the same costco packing, I got my set from costco warehouse for $9.97. Don't pay $21, that's a rip off.
Quality-wise, it's solid and elegant BUT the lid leaks... especially when I do a re-fill and re-cap the lid, 9 out of 10 times the coffee will leak out and made a mess on my desk. But if you going to use it once and put it in the dishwasher, you'll be just fine.

These were horrible! I was replacing a great ceramic travel mug that was accidentally knocked off a desk and broken. First, they don't retain heat well, and isn't that the goal of a travel mug? Also, ceramic was very flawed where it picked up stains in some spots, and had huge bumps in others, and after washing one time in the DW, one of the cups got a vertical crack on the inside and a horizontal crack on the outside.

Smells like a plastics factory - phthalates?,

I can't believe this product is called the Eco Coffee cup. It should be called "shut up and drink yer napalm"The plastic parts have the same consistency as many toys, and I don't see how they could avoid using dangerous chemicals to soften the plastics: Safety advocates seek to ban chemicals that soften plastic toys by Whitney Jackson June 04, 2008 SAFETOYS-boy Whitney Jackson/Medill "I would like to see phthalates banned from all products," said Chicago mom Stephanie Felten, pictured with her three-year-old son, Derek. Toy safety advocates are asking two Illinois congressmen to push for a ban on chemicals used to soften plastic toys such as bath time buddies -- even yellow duckies. The suspect chemicals, phthalates (pronounced FAL-ates), are reportedly linked to serious health problems in children. These include early puberty for girls, exposing them to increased risk of breast cancer later in life, according to environmental health scientist Dr. Peter Orris of the University of Illinois in Chicago.

- Fits the upholder
- Keeps the coffee warm - Can be put in the dishwasher - The silicone lids are nice and soft The only slightly negative thing I would say is that you need to spend a little extra time washing the lids the first time. |
