Lorna, we loved your book! Ignore others and keep writing!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coffee in the Cereal: The First Year with Multiple Sclerosis (Paperback)
Being a member of MS MOMS, I got myself an autographed copy of Lorna's first book. I also got a chance to meet her at an MS gathering, to talk to her about MS and her book. She was devastated by the errors and reviews. It saddened me to hear that she got negative comments because of the way it was published.Let me tell you something:This little book is not written by some doctor and shares every aspect of Lorna's experiences. Good and bad. Most of us would not be brave enough to share these trials. Lorna took the chance to share with us. She did so in a funny, touching manner. That alone, deserves praise! The idea that people want to rip her book apart because of what happened after the book left her hands, and went to the publisher, is sickening. They should be taking their negative views to those who maligned the book, the publisher, not Lorna. I think as a first time author, Lorna has learned many lessons. Among them, that many of us who live with MS forgive imperfections, not all publishers are created equal, and those who can't tell the difference should be ignored. This book is wonderful, mistakes and all! Pure and simple!

Thank you for writing this book!,

After my diagnosis of multiple sclerosis, I was scared and depressed. This funny little book has done more for my outlook on living with multiple sclerosis than most other attempts. She doesn't preach, she simply tells it like it is! If there were mistakes, I didn't notice them while I was giggling. Lorna is light-hearted and daring with her smart-aleck turns of phrase and descriptions. No doubt she will stir up the more "politically-correct" and those who are not affected by their MS. However, for those of us whose lives have been changed by mutliple sclerosis, her words are just what the doctor ordered!

Incredibly honest, incredibly funny,

It shouldn't be possible to be painfully honest, incredibly funny, and highly informative at the same time... especially when dealing with the personal story of a multiple sclerosis onset. I still can't fathom how Lorna Moorhead not only can laugh at her own situation, but can make us laugh with her.Even the occasional proofreading and editing glitches don't sidetrack the reader from a real sense of involvement. I read it straight thru in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down. Please let there be more books from this fresh, funny new voice!

When I read this book, it was a revelation. This lady said what I had been feeling and thinking. It is great to know you are not alone, you are not crazy and that all these weird things that have been happening are real, because they do happen to others. Honest, funny, touching but above all it helped me to accept my MS and get on with life.

Not a snob,

I read books for content not grammar. When I bought Coffee in the Cereal, it wasn't because I was looking for a grammar lesson. I got the book because I wanted to read about someone else's experience with Multiple Sclerosis. Ms. Moorhead's book was funny, heartfelt, and down to earth. The book may seem simple-minded to some, but to me it was just the story I was looking for. Simple. My life is complicated enough. It makes me sad to see readers who can't do anything better than to pick it apart. I want to thank Ms. Moorhead for writing something that wasn't perfect because Multiple Sclerosis isn't perfect either.

I'm newly diagnosed and have been battling depression. A friend sent this book to me and it came just at the right time. This book is proof that laughter is the best medicine. After reading it, and knowing that someone else feels just like me, my mood is better. I hope this lady writes another one cause she had me and my family rolling!

Finally someone who understands!,

I loved this book. Being newly diagnosed this tiny little book gave me hope and help. The author was even able to make me laugh about MS. Laughing is something I never thought I would do. I am not only going to make my family and friends read it, I would recommend it to anyone with MS. The only reason I don't give it more stars is the print job.

I'm sorry that the publisher of "Coffee in the Cereal" failed to provide adequate editorial services before the book went to print. I'm more sorry, though, that reviews citing that oversight are likely to discourage potential readers from buying the book. There's much in Ms. Moorhead's account of her first year with multiple sclerosis that can bring humor and hope to those faced with getting through the first post-diagnosis months. Reading the book is also a chance for more experienced MSers to smile as they "remember when," and to wish that they'd had Ms. Moorhead's perspective in dealing with their own diagnoses. "Coffee in the Cereal" is a refreshing break from the daily drudgery and frustration of living with a chronic, disabling illness. I laughed out loud several times during the read. Any book that can make me do that is worth reading, not once, but several times. Thank you, Lorna Moorhead.
