If you already own a Keurig, skip to the next paragraph. If you haven't bought one yet because you're a little worried by the reports that the coffee it makes is "not quite strong enough," then fear no more. Buy the Keurig--you won't regret it.

Wake Up Call is one of what I think of as the Coffee People ExtraBold Trilogy: Wake Up Call, Jet Fuel, and Black Tiger. Wake Up Call has a rich, almost caramel flavor, with a very mild tobaccoey aftertaste. All three of them are for the bold coffee lover... if Dunkin' Donuts is your java of choice, stay away from this one!

When we first bought our Keurig, I was timid about buying large quantities, but once you find a few brews you really like, bulk purchase makes a lot of sense. K-cups are packed with nitrogen, so the coffee stays fresh an amazingly long time, and the last cup you brew is as delicious as the first. The box this product ships in is the only container--no smaller boxes inside (that just have to go in the recycle bin anyhow)--and the price per K-cup is better. What's not to like? Bold coffee lovers of the world, Wake Up and smell the coffee!

I was given a top of the line K-Cup coffee maker last Christmas. In the next several weeks I tried numerous blends. Several were quite good but Coffee People's Wake Up Call was (and is) without doubt the best by far. In fact it is so good that I am still consistently amazed when I make a cup.

"Wow, this is good coffee!" I think to my self.

I've brewed good coffees many other times over the years but the excitement and satisfaction always faded leading me to try something different. Not so with Wake Up Call. Yes, it is that good!

I acutally used to be a salesrep for Aramark and sold ONLY coffee to large corporations. Because of that, I had to learn the beans inside and out and so much else about coffee taste.

That's no longer my career, but I still search out good beans for my own morning wake up call.

This is one of my favorites.

Coffee beans break down in taste via 2 main elements: light and oxygen

FRESHNESS: The individual cups, therefore, prevent you opening up a bag daily and exposing your beans to what ruins the taste and freshness each time you open the bag: light and oxygen. This is a good and brilliant thing with the Keurig because you can use cups like these that remained sealed rather than one individual bag that gets opened each day. . Individual cups mean they are opened but once. Total freshness.

TASTE: But none of that matters if the taste of the coffee isn't great to start. And this is. I'm still picky about a rich, full-bodied roast with my eggs each day. This is soothingly wonderful and is a staple in our kitchen. It's dark and rich and full-bodied and very smooth.

Wake Up Call is angry. Angry at sleep. Angry at you. I love it.

I like dark roasts, and I especially like drinks that can deliver as much caffeine as quickly as possible. What I often find though, is that dark roasts often come with a bitter and / or acidic aftertaste (I'm looking at you, Jet Fuel). Wake Up Call, however, is incredibly smooth.

On the medium setting, Wake Up Call is consistently decent and full-flavored. It's passable on the large setting, which I find uncommon. Really, though, medium is where it's at.

And caffeine? Well, every morning, I brew one cup on medium, and one on small, which fills my Contigo Double Wall Stainless Steel Vacuum Insulated Tumbler perfectly. By the time my cup is empty, I'm ready to tear the heads off of all who would oppose me, and scream at their corpses. I mean that in the best, most awesome way possible.

If you're not ready to commit to 50 of these, consider picking up the Coffee People Extra Bold Variety Pack, and try out Jet Fuel, Black Tiger, and Organic (as well as Wake Up Call, of course).

I've been buying wake up call for years now but it just shot up from 29 to 79 a box. How is that even possible?
This is out of control, and if you think for ONE second anyone will purchase at this price you are ridiculous!

Great Coffee. We order a case every two weeks, and have for a LONG time. We are on Subscribe and Save with it. Noticed at the holiday season *this* year, Amazon has taken away the Subscribe and Save Option (for this and all other cases) and doubled the price! I swear, they do this at the holidays to squeeze us. MERRY CHRISTMAS AMAZON. Getting our case every two weeks from Target. We might go back to ordering if it goes back to the regular $. I loved the Subscribe program, I didn't have to remember!

Wake up call is my new favorite replacing Jet Fuel as number one over Jet Fuel and Tiger blend.

Coffee is great, my favorite everyday blend. But an unexpected (and untold) increase in price on something that automatically deducts from my account every month, not okay.

I started getting this coffee through the subscribe and save program (which they no longer offer on this coffee) and had a case delivered to my house once a month for the past year. I just checked my account to see when my next shipment will come, and saw that the price has increased by TEN DOLLARS a case. While ten dollars is not a lot, it is a 30% increase, which I was NOT told about by amazon. Many of my friends and family have started using subscribe and save because of my recommendations, but I will encourage them all to cancel their subscriptions.

Unacceptable.

NOTE: This is a review of this coffee in the K-cup format, not of Amazon's packaging. However, I have never had trouble with the Frustration-free packaging; I simply cannot comment in this case.

Reviewer's preferences: Strong, medium-dark roast coffees, mid-to-heavily sweetened with whole milk (4:1 ratio or a little heavier toward the coffee side). I occasionally add a hint of vanilla syrup and cream or half-and-half if a coffee is overly bitter.

I picked up this coffee in a large sampler box of Coffee People "Extra Bold" K-cups, which I have just finished off. The collection contained the following blends/coffees: Wake-up Call, Jet Fuel, Black Tiger, and Organic. I have had each coffee multiple times. From the four, I give the Organic blend the top spot with a slight edge over Black Tiger (we're talking 9.1/10 over 9.0/10 here). Both the Black Tiger and Organic were strong and bold in flavor but not too bitter, while the Wake-up Call tended to be a little more harsh on the palate. The Jet Fuel blend was appropriately named, as it almost always required a little vanilla and more milk or even heavy cream to make it palatable.

Qualities of Coffee People Wake-up Call:
Strong, dark coffee flavor (think bold Columbian or strong Italian roast strength). Medium bitterness that is not too overwhelming, mostly on the back of the tongue and aftertaste, but still drinkable. Medium acidity, but not really sour at all, with a noticeable earthy, but not muddy, flavor. Flavor envelops the entire mouth, but sometimes overwhelms the palate. Good body, but not as substantial as other bold coffees. Takes to sweeteners and milk/cream reasonably without disappearing, though I find it needs a little more sweetness added than some other coffees. Drinkable, but not outstanding bold coffee, with good qualities that are sometimes overshadowed by disappointing notes. In some ways, the coffee feels inconsistent from cup-to-cup, which could be due to changes in palate or preparation on different days. Most excellent coffees do not have this downfall, however.

this is a good coffee that is stronger than say donut shop, but not as robust as the extra bold ones like black majic. I prefer the black majic extra bold so this one was a little weak flavored for me, but still very good.
The packaging is just a brown box, so there is not alot of extra junk to have to dispose of.
