What a great K-cup sampler...,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We've had our Keurig B60 about nine months now, and we've tried a number of the highest rated K-cups, so I wanted to set up subscriptions on Amazon for the varieties we want to have on hand on a regular basis.I'd never tried Coffee People K-cups before, so I ordered the two variety packs they offer: the Extra Bold (that has five French Roast Decaf K-cups) and the Extra Bold Flavored (all "the real thing"). We will need to order three different packs per month, and I was looking for something different. At first I didn't think we'd use the decaffeinated ones, but then I realized there are times when we really want a cup of coffee at night (like the rare times we break down and buy that ice cream or cheesecake) but don't want the caffeine that late. So nothing's going to go to waste.... I am so impressed with the Coffee People coffees I've tried so far, and I know that we'll be including the Extra Bold Flavored pack in our once-monthly subscription. I haven't tried the Kafe-lua or Vanilla Avalanche yet, but if they are even half as good as the Chai Coffee and Berry Blast from that pack, I'll be in heaven. My DH loves Tully's French Roast, which comes closest to having that "strong bite" that he was used to pre-Keurig (with the crap coffee), but I have a feeling he may decide that Coffee People's Black Tiger is at least tied for first place. I love it! Speaking of pre-Keurig: When we first got our Keurig, we had to get used to the difference between cheap coffee brewed with unfiltered water in a Mr. Coffee and the Keurig K-cup coffees. At first, we thought the latter were awfully weak and not as flavorful. Those K-cups with very, very strong, even bitter flavors were the ones we were drawn to. After we'd been drinking K-cups a while, I had a cup of coffee in my doctor's office and realized that what we had been thinking was "strong" coffee was really coffee laden with pesticide taste--bleeccchhhhhh!!! Now that my palate is becoming more accustomed to the good stuff, I'm beginning to be able to discriminate more between the subtle differences in these coffees. For example, the Tully's Sumatra is excellent and so is the Gloria Jean's Sumatra; however, of the two, I find the Gloria Jean's to be "earthy" while the Tully's is more "muddy." Being able to discriminate in this way is what makes me really love the Coffee People's K-cups, because the coffees are rich and flavorful but, at the same time, smooth and balanced and not at all harsh; each has a decidedly different character. Also, the Extra Bolds lend themselves well to making a double cup using the small setting on our Keurig B60, run through the same K-cup two times. (If I feel like super-strong, I'll just run it through once. DH is a one-time brewer.) The variety packs are a real winner, too. It's nice to be able to sample the different coffees without having to buy 50 K-cups of the same variety. Once you decide on which you are in love with, you can then buy the 50-packs of just the flavors you most prefer. What a winner....

I did not know what varieties were in this package. It has Wake-Up Call, Black Tiger, French Roast, French Roast Decaf, and Organic Bold. In my opinion the French Roast is the best one. It is strong but not bitter and smells just the way I want coffee to smell. None of them are bad, but I wouldn't by the others by themselves. I was hoping that some of the other highly rated Coffee People Bold varieties would be included like Donut Shop Coffee and Jet Fuel. I will try them next. The other CP Bold variety pack has "flavored" bold coffees and I am not a big fan of flavored coffee. I prefer to brew a great cup of strong coffee and flavor it myself if the mood strikes me. I was told at Starbucks that coffee sold flavored has usually had some type of error in it's roasting process. In my experience flavored coffee tends to be weak, especially in K-cups. Even on the smallest cup setting I can not get the coffee to taste strong enough. I also get sick of 50 cups of them same flavor!I hope this was helpful. As an update: I was informed that the "bold" K-cup varieties actually contain more coffee by weight per cup, and in fact after checking the packages I found it to be true. Who knew? :)

The new combo of flavors is great. Jet Fuel, Black Tiger, Extra Bold Organic, and Wake-Up Call are all good. This package used to have french roast and FR decaf in it. The latest I received had the 4 I listed.

I really like Coffee People Donut Shop coffee, but since it is a wee bit on the weak side for my tastes, I decided to try this variety pack of extra bold flavors. Let me first state for reference that I have a Keurig B66 which has 3 cup sizes (5.25, 7.25, 9.25oz), and I always use one K-cup for one 9.25oz cup, and I drink it black. I don't make smaller cups to make it stronger, nor do I run extra water to make it weaker. I judge each k-cup in 9.25oz. It should also be noted that I use spring water exclusively in my machine (done for both flavor and machine longevity).I tend to like full-bodied/full-flavored coffee (that doesn't always mean "strong"). Therefore, I tend to like the dark roasts better, which is why I find Donut Shop just a bit lacking (but I like it enough that I still drink it). That's also why I went for this variety pack, because all four flavors are dark roast coffees. Since the varieties sometimes change in these kind of boxes, the flavors included for this review are Black Tiger, Jet Fuel, Wake-Up Call, and Organic. I'll start by saying that by far my new favorite K-Cup is Jet Fuel (and I've tried at least 15-20 different varieties, not including flavored or decaf coffee). It has full flavor that is really good, but has no "strong" characteristics IMO (i.e. bitter, burnt, dense, etc.). When I took the first sip of Jet Fuel, I immediately thought, "Wow, this is good coffee!" The Black Tiger is a very strong coffee. In fact, too strong for me to drink with any regularity. To me, it was the strongest coffee I've tried, even more so than Emeril's Big Easy Bold and Timothy's Parisian Nights. It also has that "burnt" taste. If you like Starbuck's, you'll love this. Wake-Up Call is probably the mildest of the 4 (not weak, mind you). It does have a full flavor, but it's not as robust as the others. It's almost like Donut Shop if DS were a dark roast. It kind of has that generic "cuppa joe" taste. It was good, but not something I plan on buying regularly. It was a bit on the bitter side. Finally, the Organic. I absolutely hated this coffee. It wasn't too weak or too strong, and it wasn't really bitter or burnt. It was just an awful tasting coffee. Almost like it was old, stale coffee. Were it not for the Organic variety, this variety pack would be a regular subscribe and save purchase for me, and this review would have 5 stars. All in all, I love the Coffee People family of coffees, and if you are a fan of "bold" coffees, I would definitely recommend at least trying this variety pack and judge for yourself. There's sure to be at least one flavor you'll love. Like I said, for me it was Jet Fuel.

Just wanted to point out that many of these reviews refer to what must have been an older variety pack. The current pack (as of March 2010) contains Organic, Jet Fuel, Wake Up Call and Black Tiger, so no flavored coffees and no decaf. I really like all of them - nice, dark roasts, but each one has a distinct flavor. I've had some Coffee People varieties that I find somewhat burnt tasting, but these four are a great selection.

I've been a Green Mountain Coffee fan for years, but when Amazon was out of stock... I decided to give Coffee People another try. I've had a few cups before that were included with my coffee maker, but none were of the bold variety.By far, my favorite of the bunch is Wake Up Call. It's bold without tasting like French Roast (which is also included and a good flavor, but I'm not always in the mood for it). The others that are included are Black Tiger, Coffee People Organic, and Decaf French Roast. Hope you enjoy it!

Recycling & Composting K-Cups,

Just got my first KEURIG. I received a box full of K-CUPS and felt that it was very wasteful. But, alas, I took one apart and was able to compost the coffee, rinse out the cup and place it in my recycling! Now I can enjoy my new KEURIG, although I will be buying the reusable K-CUP.

I absolutely love this coffee. My favorite is the Wake-Up Call. But let me warn you, the Black Tiger has to be the blackest Tiger on the face of the planet. That coffee is the boldest, blackest coffee I've ever tasted out of my Keurig. I'm not saying it's bad, but don't do the same mistake I did and drink it on a hangover thinking it'll shock you back into a non-hangover state because it was absolutely too bold for me. But on normal days it isn't bad. The Jet Fuel is also very good, and the Organic doesn't really stand out, but it's my coffee for days where I don't need a boost from Wake-Up Call, a punch (or should I say claw) in the face from Black Tiger, and a turbo from Jet Fuel. All of these are very good, and I don't regret my purchase one bit, except that next time I'll be buying two of these.

Strong and Delicious,

I've been trying various K-Cups for almost two years. Except for Emeril, I hadn't found a consistently strong and flavorful coffee that I wanted to keep drinking. I checked other reviews and found this sampler listed as full-flavored, strong, and worthwhile trying by several people. Thank You All. It is a winner! All four flavors are strong and delicious.

I am a bold kind of girl, so when I saw this coffee I was THRILLED. I thought that I would be a Bustelo lifer. But this is my new favorite and I will always purchase this product. It is some of the best coffee I've had. And I like the variety. I have some "jet fuel" when I need a boost or just enjoy the organic variety. All are very flavorful and I don't get tired of drinking them. I will recommend this to every hardcore coffee drinker I know.Sidenote: This is not for the faint of heart. If you are one of those who drinks 1/4 cup of coffee with 3/4 cup of cream and sugar, this is probably not for you. |
