First-time author Jim Thomas, better known as the guitarist and co-songwriter in the duo Say-So, writes about the big perplexing questions that have arisen from open seminars he's conducted around Christian teachings. In these forums, which he calls "Did Adam and Eve Have Belly Buttons?" Thomas has responded to honest questions about absolute truth, the existence of God, the problem of evil, the authority of the Bible and the person of Jesus.

With Coffeehouse Theology Thomas attempts to answer many of these basic challenges of faith, while never denigrating the role that doubt often plays in a person's spiritual journey and growth. In a well-reasoned but conversational style, Thomas uses simple parables and stories to explore the deeper truths of the Christian faith and philosophy.

Coffeehouse does not pretend to be a final stop in intellectual and theological development; rather it seeks to induce right thinking on key issues while inviting a deeper investigation and exploration of Scripture, Christian apologetics and philosophy. Most importantly, it assumes that asking questions is not only OK, but an important part of engaging one's faith and God. -- Brian Quincy Newcomb (c) 2000 CCM Communications, Inc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully Written, August 5, 2000

Jim Thomas has done us all a service by giving layman answers to the most
asked questions regarding God and religion. The answers are not overly
simplistic. They are the result of careful examination of the facts viewed
through the looking glass of logic. This book is invaluable not only to the
novice but to the theologian as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars finally, something understandable, November 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Coffeehouse Theology: Where Real Questions Meet Honest Answers (Paperback)
I'm so grateful to finally find a book on theology that isn't condescending or overly vocabulary-endowed. I can understand the answers and explanations and actually repeat what I've learned.

For me or for a friend, this is the perfect combination of intellectually satisfying information and understandable, logical, relatable answers. The glossary for untangling terms at the back is particularly helpful.

This is a classic for my library.

This is a good book for those who have not read a great deal of Christian material. It is fairly basic and has real value for some new insights.
