The picture of the first aid kit that unrolls with the gear neatly oragnized inside is NOT what you get. You get a clear plastic bag with everything stuffed in it. Had i known that this did not come in a handy organizing case i would not have bought this particular kit. It says it came with a pvc pouch (8x12) and a waterproof nylon pouch (7 by 10) but i only have the 7x10. Otherwise, its a decent kit. But without the organization of the pouch it didnt come with, its a big hassle to get whatever you are trying to find.
Edit: it is also missing the 35 foot nylon cord. it has the 12' and the thread. the compass i came with is useless.the whistle will get you by, but buy a better one.

I bought this and I should have just flushed my money down the toilet. When I ordered I knew the items would be cheap but not this bad.
The "reusable" poncho is made of plastic thinner than the cheapest garbage bags...think saran wrap. Actually a large heavy duty garbage bag would make you a far better poncho as indicated in Cody Lundin's 98.6 Degrees: The Art of Keeping Your Ass Alive . I HIGHLY recommend this book, is a wonderful read and will help you make your own kit and be prepared. The "mirror" is so laughable...no reflection at all! Piece of really crappy cheap plastic with no reflective qualities..not even as much as tin foil. I did like the pvc pouch it comes in and use that to hold one of my reference books (Cody's ^.^). It is actually quite nice. The plastic whistle is also just fine. As for fishing gear, seriously go down to your local supermarket type store that carries fishing gear and get one of their cheap starter kits for like 7-10 dollars, I got his one from Amazon South Bend 137 Piece Deluxe Tackle Kit...you will be glad you did. Same for the first aid items. In conclusion, for the money I spent on this kit, I got a nice bag and a plastic whistle. [One last note....this would be better then nothing (well almost better then nothing) as every person should have a survival kit in my opinion.Do yourself and your family a huge favor and make your own kit and do some research, you will be far happier and better off.]

Fishing Gear?,

Not a bad kit for the money. Fishing gear in an emergency kit always makes me laugh. Your first priority is protection from hypothermia/exposure either by clothing, shelter or fire. Second is rescue, being found, extraction, etc. I don't think you'll do much fishing while trying to keep warm at night, and while extracting yourself or being found the next day, as is what happens in most all emergency survival situations. Fishing gear belongs in an extended stay kit or on a planned fishing trip. I know we all think about crash landing in a remote part of the world and needing to eat something after a few weeks so we better have a fish hook just in case we are near a great fishing lake and the fish are biting... not likely. I'll take a compass over a fish hook any day! Make a fish trap instead - fish swim in and they can't swim out. While the trap does its work you can prepare firewood or signal for help. Most people couldn't catch a fish with the best pole and gear anyway, never mind just a hook and some line. PLEASE Help Me Spread The Message... NO FISH HOOKS! The life you save may be your own... learn to make a fish trap. Okay, I've done my part. Good luck!

Fast shipping and product exactly as ordered. Would have liked to see more first aid supplies but other than that a great selection of important items and an easy to read guide on how to use them. Will be going on an extended hike this summer and look forward to bringing it along.

This "Survival Kit" really is the absolute minimum most people should keep in a car or carry with them when heading into the woods for anything more than a casual hike. It should be noted that at the time of this writing the kit is not as pictured in the Amazon image. Overall I am pleased with the quality and contents, with the following observations:* Survival Manual - A little light but a good enough primer on what to do in emergency situations, focusing on the basics of shelters, heat, and water. I recommended getting SAS Survival Handbook: The Ultimate Guide to Surviving Anywhere and reading through it occasionally. * First Aid Supplies - contains several band-aid sizes, disinfecting wipes, and a sterile pad * Light and Fire Making - has two "Firesticks" that will light easily to be used as tinder to start a larger fire, a pack of regular matches in a ziplock bag, a small emergency candle, and a 12-hour glowstick (expires in 2015) * Comfort Items - a silver emergency "space" blanket (really a necessity, both for keeping warm and as a signaling aid) and a plastic poncho * Signaling Devices - Small plastic mirror of decent quality, a very cheap plastic whistle (really should be replaced), orange trail tape, and the silver blanket (mentioned above) * Misc Gear - has lots of handy things like a complete fishing kit, lots of rope, wire, and thread (with needle), a razor blade, and even safety pins All of the above fits into a thick waterproof, Velcro sealed plastic bag. As these kits go, it is a worthwhile investment but I would replace the whistle and matches with better quality items and add an energy bar or two for good measure. Recommended CFH

Its a nice start for a grab and go bag at a nice price. There are some things to add to it, but overall for the contents, its worth the price. I have one in my car and my wife's car. You never know when it will come in handy.
