Editorial Reviews

Review

"The book is excellent, the demonstrations and examples are excellent."

"This chapter was extremely well written. It is the best Imagery chapter that I have read."

"The primary strength of the book is that both within and across chapters the author has done a very nice job of starting with foundational topics/concepts and building in a very coherent fashion to broader and higher level conceptualizations'.There is a nice balance between classic and contemporary coverage of cognitive-behavioral and physiological approaches. There is in most all cases a very nice balance between experiment, theory, and everyday life. I particularly like that the author takes the time to explain the weaknesses of any particular theory in a way that allows the student to understand not just how the particular theory is weak but also allows critical transfer to evaluation of other theories."

"The principle strength of the text is both its organization and coverage. The authors do a very nice job of building from basic to complex in a way that students will easily be able to manage."

"I feel that the current manuscript has some important strengths, including ones I look for in a text I wish to adopt. Notably, I found the writing and the approach to the material to likely be very accessible to students. The text has good coverage with a well-organized introduction to vital concepts. A major strength which I also demand in my course is a commitment toward active learning, and it refreshing to see a text do that."

"The author has put great attention and thought into making the demonstrations and examples work and come alive for students. In that respect, this text will be of great help to the instructor in that students can get some of the thrill of learning about the mind from the way the text is presented." --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book, January 28, 2008
This review is from: Cognitive Psychology: Connecting Mind, Research and Everyday Experience (with Coglab 2.0 Online Booklet) (Hardcover)
To be completely honest the only reason I bought this book was because it was required for one of my classes. Overall though the book is a fairly easy read with lots of demonstrations throughout. In the center of the book there are also several color "plates" as they call them, that are refered to during the reading. This book also comes with a Coglab manual. If you are not taking a class that requires the manual, then I would look for just the text book. To use the online part you need a special code from a school to access it. The Coglabs are fun though and a vaild learning experience that teach you a lot about yourself. This book is a far easier read than a lot of textbooks I have had to read. If you are interested in the subject of Congnitive Psychology then I would recommend this book as an introduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! A concise read and an understandable textbook., March 11, 2010
This review is from: Cognitive Psychology: Connecting Mind, Research and Everyday Experience (with Coglab 2.0 Online Booklet) (Hardcover)
Goldstein does a great job sharing examples, case studies, and using illustrations. This book has pictures on almost every page to help clarify studies and concepts. The writing is clear and easily understood. There are chapter summaries and questions to consider. I have been very impressed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid Kindle Version for Class, January 29, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If you're buying this book for a class, avoid the Kindle version. Some graphics/pictures won't display because of copyright restrictions, and, despite the title saying it includes "coglab 2.0 online book", it does not. They don't mention this in the description, only at the end of the editorial review. Once you buy the e-pin for coglab 2.0, you end up spending more money than you would if you just bought the hard cover book from the start.
