"Cohn-Head" should be required reading for anyone who has a desire to ever work behind a microphone or in front of a camera. In this book, longtime ESPN anchor and correspondent Linda Cohn illustrates why sportscasting, as glamourous as it appears on the surface, is a gritty business to get into.

3.0 out of 5 stars An "OK" Read for ESPN Lovers
If you're into reading people's journal entries, this is for you. Linda is an entertaining writer. I did tire of her egocentric "it's all about me" attitude, that overtakes her journey in sports journalism.

Cohn gives a lot of credit to some of the women who went before her into a profession traditionally dominated by men. And she also takes time to credit the men who helped open doors for her--including her husband, who sadly, at the time this book was written, was no longer with her. Although that marriage has apparently come to an end, Cohn understands quite clearly what she lost and why she lost it.

But to get into and stay in the broadcasting business, Cohn definitely paid her dues--working multiple radio and TV gigs, moving across the country for more lucrative work, and doing stories on sports that were less exciting than what she liked. That's why she's one of the best in the business, in my opinion, and why she's such a treat to watch. Women like Linda Cohn are worth their weight in gold, to me, because they not only understand sports, they love sports. "Cohn-Head" is a good book, and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasant Surprise!, September 30, 2008

This review is from: Cohn-Head: A No-Holds-Barred Account of Breaking Into the Boys' Club (Hardcover)
I've watched Linda Cohn on ESPN for years and always had the impression of the consummate professional. Not only did she know sports, but she fit right in on the male-dominated screen. Linda was the first female sportscaster I watched on a regular basis, so I decided to read the book to hopefully go beyond the figure she presented on TV. I must say, I was shocked by the engaging, funny, honest, down-to-earth person I found between the covers of this book. The style is easy and flowing, her humor left me with a smile on my face, her honesty was so refreshing; Linda was equally as open with her failures as she was with her successes. I truly felt that I "met" Linda in this book; I heard a voice that went so far beyond the professional voice I hear on TV. Linda became a friend who made me feel that it's okay to fight for what you want and to fall down along the way as long as you pick yourself back up. While this is an inspirational book for younger women who may be filled with hopes about where they want to go yet harbor doubts about how far they can go, it is also enlightening for women like myself who have "grown-up" but still feel there is much to achieve. Men and women alike, young and old, will be doing themselves a favor by reading this book, spending time getting to know Linda, and learning about themselves in the process.

What a great read! I recommend this book for non-sports fans too. This book is written in a style that is very enjoyable and Linda's personality shines through. It was interesting to read how she got to where she is today. She shares insight and guidance, and clearly wants to help others achieve their goals as well.

Cohnhead is a must read for any sports fan or any female ready to take on the world!

I found myself laughing hysterical at vivid descriptions of a childhood-Cohn has an amazing talent for delivering a well woven story with a lot wit and humor!

Cohn's contagious passion for sports literally leaps off each page. It's no wonder why Cohn is THE most respected sports anchor-male or female!

Cohn-Head is a well-written, touching, honest and informative autobiography by a true pioneer in sports broadcasting.
Linda Cohn's story will appeal to sports fans and anyone else interested in what it takes to succeed in broadcasting and in life.
At times, funny, at times touching, Cohn-Head is never boring. I read it in one sitting. Linda Cohn is a talented writer and has met every major figure in sports over the past two decades. Highly recommended.

I had the pleasure of meeting Linda in Las Vegas at a book signing she was doing while attending a seminar, and her down to earth attitude is what I remember most. She's a classy, funny lady, and with a great read on her journey to where she's at today, you can't help but give her a big hand. Congrats on your success, Linda.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY ENTERTAINING!, October 13, 2008
This review is from: Cohn-Head: A No-Holds-Barred Account of Breaking Into the Boys' Club (Hardcover)
I was so excited when I received my copy of this book, that I couldn't wait to read it! Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down!

Cohn-Head is a very motiviational & inspirational book. Linda teaches us that once you realize your dream, keep going for it! Don't let obstacles stand in the way. I saw a little bit of myself in Linda, and flashed back on my own career, and how I achieved my dream with lots of determination, even when I thought I coudn't get there!

Linda kept me laughing through quite a few parts of the book - My mind is still boggled by the fact that her duaghter was once too young for a babysitter, but not too young to see Roseanne Barr! She also touched our hearts a little bit by delving into her personal life, telling about her not-so-perfect childhood, to her own struggles with relationships as an adult. Yet, through it all, she remained strong, and kept a smile on her face.

This book adds a little more personality, and gives that human touch to the Sportscaster we watch on a regular basis.....even if she is a die-hard Mets fan!
