A definate winner!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Coin Collecting for Kids (Spiral-bound)
I purchased this for my 12-year-old cousin who had started to collect the 50 state quarters along with stray change as boys do. He stayed up until almost midnight the first night (a weekend, of course), reading and placing coins. He has become so enthused that he took his weekly allowance to a coin shop to purchase some coins. Even the owners of the coin shop were impressed with the book. They said that they had not seen one like it and thought it was great.

Great starter book for young coin collectors,

This is a great little book for young coin collectors, especially those who are just getting started. It has very sturdy thick "pages" to hold your special coins. It has a place for all 50 statehood quarters, a place for your birth year coins and a place for special coins, like the Indian head cent, the Buffalo nickel, the Mercury dime, the Liberty standing quarter, the Peace dollar and more. It also gives a lot of interesting information about coins like how coins are made, the parts of a U.S. coin, how to grade coins, minting mistakes, fascinating coin facts and even more. My 7 year old daughter has just become interested in coin collecting and this is the first book we bought for her (for Christmas). I think it's going to be a great way to encourage her in her new hobby. I really can't think of anything bad to say about the book. I would buy it again and I would definitely recommend it. I just wish he'd write a book like this on international coins!

our very favorite collection book,

Perfect for that first-collection kiddo. It's been very popular with my first graders and with several kids lucky enough to get it as a present. Very sturdy, too, a big plus. But beware, it turns the kids into coin fanatics! Any new state quarters elicit huge excitement and many happy scenes in stores, etc.

This coin book is excellant. My son received this as a gift years ago. We just found it mixed in with all our books. He is 7 now and is totally into collecting and putting the coins in the book. My 4 year old daughter wanted to do the same. We looked everywhere in stores and were told by numerous big chain stores that they no longer carry the item. I found it on Amazon.com and was thrilled. We ordered it and now both kids can collect. The book is awesome.

From a mom's point of view, it would have been nice to make a coin book where you can get the coins in the book without using a hammer and glue. The maker did provide a nice book in a chronological linear fashion and my children and I did enjoy the trivia and facts. This book holds a lot of different coins from easy to rare. From a child's point of view (Jayde)! On the time lines it would have been nice if they would have the dates in slots so that I would know which ones to look for.

Great Book, Could Have Better Spiral Bound Construction,
By Shopper (Indialantic, FL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Coin Collecting for Kids (Board book)
This coin book is great! Both my of my kids have one (ages 5 and 9) and they love them. My oldest in particular has really gotten into coin collecting and learning how money is made. It has a special page where you collect coins from your birth year and a statehood quarter from your birth state. Collect all of the statehood quarters and presidential coins. Collect the oldest of each coin that you find with an easy way to change them out if older coins are found. I wish all of the coins had this special feature so you could switch out coins if you found one in better condition.
My only real complaint is that the newer versions of these books have a terrible, terrible design for the spiral bound construction that keeps all of the pages in. It is made of metal and comes loose and pages come out. I will have to do what the previous reviewer did and basically connect them back together with something permanent. I just hope it will still look nice once I do that. Actually, I do have one other complaint. I ordered a few of these to give as gifts since the kids really enjoy them and they are not too costly. Most of the books I got from Amazon were not in gift giving condition, meaning they had scratches on the covers and the corners were torn. Amazon was great about refunding though. So, get a book in good condition, fix the spiral and you have a great book with hours of entertaining and learning.

This past summer my kids and I sorted, counted, and rolled over $550 in coins. In the process we filled our coin collecting book (the previous version of this one) and I couldn't believe what a great bonding experience this was. I have 3 children 6 1/2, 5, and 3 years old. My 6 1/2 year old was really into this...not so much for my other ones. But, I think they were just a little to young for them. We're on the hunt to fill in all the slots in the book.
A TIP: We used glue to keep some of the coins in. They are a little tough to get in the slots, but we used a quarter and pressed the quarter on the coin to oush them into the slot. It's amazing how heavy the book gets when it's full. This was a great memory for me this summer.

Great Fun for Kids and Parents,
This review is from: Coin Collecting for Kids (Spiral-bound)
I got 2 of these books - one for my 7-year old and one for my 5-year old. They both have enjoyed looking through coins and finding their place in the book, especially the state coins. My 7-year old is more interested in the fun facts contained within the pages, but it's a great on-going project we can pull out anytime. I plan on giving more of these books as gifts to friends' kids.

Both my kids and husband enjoyed this book. It's a great way to collect not only state quarters, but other coins as well. All the coins are easily obtainable without a trip to the coin collector shop. It's a great way to get anyone into collecting.

A great history lesson,

This book has been wonderful for our 7 year old daughter. In easy to understand terms, she has learned how coins are made, what coins used to be made of and why they have changed, and has seen what coins used to look like. There are slots to collect just about every type of coin that the U.S. has made.It is a fun book! She has learned quite a bit of history through this book. We are using it as our history book this year, as we are home educators. She has come closer to her great-grandfather because he used to be an avid coin collector. He is happy to help her out in any way that he can! I rate this book at 4 stars because of 1 page. "The Millenium Money Tree" page. It's for the year 2000, and the new millenium does not begin until 2001. |
