pros and cons,
This review is from: Cokin Z121S Graduated Neutral Grey G2-Soft ND8 0.9 Filter (Electronics)
I tested the filter with a Canon 40D on a tripod. The photos came out looking like they were shot through a diffusion filter, in soft focus. On one hand, you get an added feature. But then again, it defeats the purpose of putting plastic in front of expensive glass.

I like these square filters better than the round screw-on type. I just hold them in front of the camera lens, rather than using the Cokin holder. No need to buy different sizes for different lenses - which saves a lot of money. This extra-large size is easy to hold in front of the lens without your thumb showing in the image. Plus, the extra length means there's a lot of leeway to slide it up and down, so the darker part of the filter covers the area you want it to. No need to change your composition to accommodate the filter. The ND8x is probably what you want if you have a digital camera. I tried the Cokin X-Pro 121M Gradual Grey G2 Medium (ND4) - Filter - graduated 4x, but it's not quite dark enough.

Images came out ok, nothing spectacular. But, mine broke with not unusual pressure, just being in the front pocket of my camera gear.

It does what it should, just not too much. This is good for some scenes, but one should get several grades for different effects. There were several times when I could have used a darker and slightly less graduated filter, but it hard to determine what grade to get for the amount of effect you may want.So I bought a medium grade and I'll shoot with it and add more filters based on my outcomes-it's not useless at all,I just need variety. It is plastic so some very slight scratches are made when it comes in contact with a lens and it's slid up/down to vary the density-I hold it with a glove on though to prevent having to clean it too many times. Now,to find a way to rubber coat the end of my lenses.

Regardless what size your lens is, 12mm? 67mm? 77mm 150 mm 410mm?...you can use this filter...I love it! Ålmost requires having the camera on a tripod... still a really useful item for bare blown out skies and much more. I priced others that were much higher and I get as many F-stops as the more expensive filters...saves having to screw on and off the lens too, it's manual application unless you purchase the filter kit for each lens. I have needed this filter in my everyday pack!
