5.0 out of 5 stars Cold Cache, cold facts?, June 9, 2009
This review is from: Cold Cache (Leisure Western) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is a great book. Tim Champlin writes an entertaining book about ex NWMP officer Kent Rasmussenand his 'retirement'. He finds himself caught in a decades old family feud, and a buried treasure. The seemingly innocent Nellie Newburn holds the key to an oft expanded trove of outlaw loot, and Kent is her buffer.

As good as the book is, there is one disturbing fact to the book. As a retiring NWMP officer who left from Ontario and spent time in Saskatchewan in 1890, Rasmussen would have been part of the Riel Rebellion and potentially part of the Long March. Most of the NWMP stayed behind. Secondarily, the mention of exchange rate on the us/Canadian currency is out of place. In 1890, while exchange with the United States was done, a 'better rate' was something that bigger banks would have had experience with.

Enjoy the book, ignore the factual faux pas.

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Cold Cache (Leisure Western) (Mass Market Paperback)
As is true of all of Tim Champlin's novels, COLD CACHE is an engaging and fast-moving story with appealing characters in an authentic setting. This book should appeal to readers who like their Western fiction to have factually based backdrops with lots of attention to accurate historical details. Most readers will be surprised, however, to learn that the protagonist of this novel, Kent Rasmussen, is a real person! Tall, lean, rugged, and handsome, he's a genuine Western hero, if I do say so myself.
