Cold Case Album Delivers the Goods,
By
This review is from: Cold Case [Original Television Soundtrack] (Audio CD)
Most of the time when I watch an episode of Cold Case, I don't pay much attention to the underscore, at least the first time I see it. I'm too wrapped up in the story. Which means the music is doing its job. But it's great when you can listen to the score separate from the picture and really hear what the composer (Michael A. Levine) is doing. I think if you do, you'll like what you hear.
I have listened to this cd at least a dozen times and still discover new things about it. From the emotional depth of A Good Death or Yo, Adrian to the creepier feel of Saving Sammy or Rush & George, this album never ceases to deliver on mood. I'm a fan of the show, so, of course, one of my favorites is 300 Flowers, a song sung onscreen by the murder victim in a 1929 episode. (I don't think this is the onscreen version, but I like it anyway.) And the ephemeral Baby Blues is a wonderful album closer. Most of these tracks are from episodes in the first four seasons. I hope they put out a followup with material from seasons 5 through 7.

This is CD is a must own for all Cold Case fans. Music is synonymous with this series and Michael does not disappoint with his highly emotionally charged arrangements from the first few seasons of the series. His arrangements provide an individual tone for the series giving voice to each victim. My personal favorites are: A Good Death, Detective's Reprise, Sister Vivian's Flashback, Gwen and Rush, Carl's Recollection, Yo Adrian, Sadie's Blues, Baby Blues, and Best Friends.

I enjoyed the show and the music but unfortunately the CD didn't present the songs in a cohesive way that would transport you back in time.

It's good, but not that great,

When I first listened to the short version of the CD, it sounded quite nice. However, by the time the CD arrived to my house and I started to play it, the CD turned out to be so "normal." Yes, the music is not bad, but it's not that great when I compare it with others. I only listen to it twice and now I don't even know where I put the CD at. I am not really recommend this CD to any Cold Case's fans out there, but if you want to listen something new, something that you not often listen to, then this is good choice for you.
