5.0 out of 5 stars Could not possibly have been better.
If you thought "Fargo" was funny, you MUST see this movie. This is a truly brilliant film with a very dark, very sick sense of humor. Paul Gross is a travelling salesman who wrecks his car in the middle of a stark Manitoba blizzard. Maury Chaykin, an erstwhile tow truck driver, rescues Gross -- then presents Gross to his daughter for her 18th birthday...

3.0 out of 5 stars Stephen King On Line 1. . . .
And he says - "you've just stolen the plot for my novel Misery". Really it's a big twist on the basis of Stephen King's Misery. But I love Paul Gross. Anything Paul does is absolutely perfect by nature. So there you have it.

If you thought "Fargo" was funny, you MUST see this movie. This is a truly brilliant film with a very dark, very sick sense of humor. Paul Gross is a travelling salesman who wrecks his car in the middle of a stark Manitoba blizzard. Maury Chaykin, an erstwhile tow truck driver, rescues Gross -- then presents Gross to his daughter for her 18th birthday. Gross puts in a stellar performance as the hapless hostage who becomes smitten with Chaykin's daughter. His gradual progression from confident salesman to twitching, terrified victim is a rare treat. Chaykin perfectly complements Gross, bringing a wonderful subtlety to his role as the hair-trigger sociopath. Combine this fantastic acting with a script chock full of sick plot twists and inspired dialogue, and you've got yourself a winner!

3.0 out of 5 stars so so, February 17, 2001

This movie was strange. I can't say it was good and I can't say it was bad. I guess if you like all the deeper meaning stuff it's pretty interesting. The acting was good. Maury Chaykin played insane very well. Although I can't watch this movie at one sitting, it's just a bit draggy.

Cold Comfort is a very good but dark movie. Rewarded as one of the best canadian movie, he is very pleasant to watch and the music with the atmoshere (very beautiful landscape) entertain people in this dark story between a poor salesman and a psychotic man with his daughter.

I will admit the only reason I rented this movie was to see Paul Gross. The acting was good. The movie seemed a bit long at times. What was good about COLD COMFORT? Paul Gross. What was bad about COLD COMFORT? the nudity and obsene language. Just not my type of movie.
