Wilkinson captures the slow pace of daily life in a Western fort after the Battle of Little Big Horn in the late 1870s, and judicious sounds effects help create a strong atmosphere of the frontier. Seamus Donegan is enjoying family life until General Sheridan plans a winter campaign to bring Crazy Horse to the reservation. The Dull Knife Battle of November 25, 1876, is captured vividly by the voices of the many participants, as well as the sounds of the horses and gunfire. Wilkinson employs unique voices for the soldiers, their wives, and the Native American characters. He reads lovingly and clearly, and his performance of this Western tragedy is a strong one.
