Biography

Quiet Riot found fame in the glam metal days of the 80s, when their single, a cover of Slade’s “Cum on Feel the Noize” hit the charts and resulted in the band’s inclusion in VH1s Greatest One Hit Wonders list.

Quiet Riot formed in the mid-70s when Kelly Garni and Randy Rhoads pulled together a band and started to gig in the L.A. nightclubs. Their eponymous debut wasn’t released until 1978 and it… Read more in Amazon's Quiet Riot Store

4.0 out of 5 stars Better known as Quiet Riot's 'Terrified' album, February 7, 2007
This review is from: Cold Day in Hell (Audio CD)
'Cold Day In Hell' is simply an import reissue of the 1993 Quiet Riot studio album 'Terrified.' If you are a Quiet Riot fan, you probably are familiar with that release. 'Terrified' was one of the "better" Quiet Riot albums, some fans consider it their best, and it came out on an indie label during the peak of the 1990's grunge scene. For that reason, most people never heard it and a lot of Quiet Riot's fans don't even own a copy. The album title here, 'Cold Day In Hell', comes from the very first song on the original 'Terrified' release. Why this import has that particular title is hard to figure but the track listing is exactly the same as you'll find on 'Terrified' from 1993. As some of you are aware, three of the four members from Quiet Riot's 1983 'Metal Health' album are featured on this release.

The music here is great, if you enjoyed Quiet Riot's 'Metal Health' album or the follow-up 'Condition Critical' (from 1984). I'd recommend looking for separate reviews of 'Terrified', including mine, for more specific information on the songs here. If you like the band, you should seriously consider a purchase. Part of the reason is that Quiet Riot will still play a song or two from this album every now and again during a live show, so they are obviously proud of it. Although this is an import, the price is very reasonable. 'Terrified' has been out of print for a long time and used copies sometimes cost more than this particular import, which is under $10 (as of early 2007).

Of course, there are a couple of cons. Neither of these are related to the music, either. First up, I think it is a little lame that the import label behind this project chose to change the title from 'Terrified' to 'Cold Day In Hell.' What was the point? Was the label reissuing this hoping Quiet Riot or the original label that released this (Moonstone Records) wouldn't know the difference? Second, the album cover here is different than the 1993 version of this product. 'Terrified' had a pretty good shot of the trademark Quiet Riot mask and logo. The album cover for 'Cold Day In Hell' features four members of Quiet Riot. Not so bad, some people might say. The trouble is that the photo on the cover of this album was taken sometime between 1997-2001, years after this was recorded. Assuming the album cover posted here at Amazon for this album is correct, it would lead you believe that former bassist Rudy Sarzo was in the band when this was recorded. Sarzo was long gone and the guy playing bass here was the late Kenny Hillery, who recorded and toured with Quiet Riot during the 1990's. The other three guys on the cover (Frankie Banali/Carlos Cavazo/Kevin DuBrow) ARE indeed part of the classic Quiet Riot lineup but that still doesn't excuse having a picture on the cover which includes Rudy Sarzo. I suppose it helps sell a few extra copies, if that is what they used the photo for.

A devoted Quiet Riot fan might already have 'Terrified', so they won't need this unless they want a cheap copy to use as a back-up. If you're a fan of the band and haven't heard the album, I'd actually recommend getting 'Terrified' instead, if only because it is the original version as it was released in 1993 and has a better album booklet and better cover art. Given the good price, though, a casual fan of 1980's rock/metal will probably enjoy this and I don't see many people being disappointed. Once again, I'd recommend reading separate reviews of the original 'Terrified' release to get the whole story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth it just for "Resurrection"..., August 9, 2003

An award winning Cd in 93' and an excellent Re-release! Not a bad track on the cd, "Terrified" and "Cold Day In Hell" are great bluesy Hard Rock, but the gem on this CD is the Carlos Cavazo Penned and Performed "Resurrection"!!! Turn it up and discover the Greatness that is Carlos Cavazo - Guitarist Extrodinaire!!!
