Book Description

When the power goes out it doesn't take long for the walking dead to go from CNN to Paul’s front door. With his wife, Sophia, and trusty friend, Dan, at his side Paul gets them guns, a siphon-kit and a plan to head south, because if the rotting corpses don’t get them, the freezing Iowa temps will.

Overnight, Paul goes from the unemployment line to the front line in a battle against darkness. However, his swelling confidence quickly propels them towards tragedy, putting his faith to the ultimate test while the fate of others hangs in the balance.

Praise for Cold Faith and Zombies:

"A dazzling masterpiece from beginning to end," writes the dude from the Donut Hut down the street from Sean's house.

"I haven't cried like that since I watched The Lion King!" says Sean's 9 yr-old niece, Madison.

"Something's wrong with him…" --- Sean's mom.

Before reading this book, I mainly read only true crime novels. I guess now my true crime stories will involve Zombie cases. I found this book had everything; some parts were outrageously funny and amusing; others were scary, suspensful and knuckle biting! Although I don't believe that Zombies exist, the author made it seem so believeable and real, it started making me wonder...., "what if" and "when?" I loved the characters in this book. I felt like I knew them! I also loved how the author tried connecting flu shots to people turning into Zombies! (How funny is that!?!?!) As a nurse, I'm always telling people to get their flu shots every year. Now I wonder if even I should get one anymore? This book was a very enjoyable read! The ending was both very sad and humorous at the same time. I can't wait to read more from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it March 1, 2012

I'm usually not into zombie books- it's been way overdone- but I loved Cold Summer Nights so I picked this one up! I was not disappointed!!!! This was much more about the interactions between the live characters rather than just killing zombies. It made me think about all of us "normal" people out there and how we would fare in the same situation! The ending is perfect too! If you like thrillers I think you'll enjoy this!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent story October 27, 2011

I feel like I need to put a sort of disclaimer or note or something whenever I do a book review. Partly because I want to emphasize that my opinion is mine alone and is based on my assessment of a book as a READER. Also, the book business is HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE, and what may be a great read for me might not be so great for you, and vice versa.

Now that I've gotten that part over with, let me preface this review by saying I purchased this book mainly because I know and follow the author's blog. Sean's always funny and a litle bit obsessed with zombies. Okay, a LOT obsessed. He has that easygoing "voice", very laid back personality, and he's the only person I know who can turn Lindsay Lohan into a zombie.

The Book:

Here is where I tread on eggshells. I have a lot of respect for the author, and I possibly had high expectations going into this read. The plot itself is very decent, though not original of course--zombies going after the survivors is a story we've all heard and read before. Prior to reading this book, I was watching the AMC's horror fest on TV, and one of the movies playing was The Diary of the Dead: a bunch of college students were filming a movie when TV reports of people coming back from the dead and attacking others unnerved them. Long story short: they fended off the walking dead, watched friends die and come back to life, and their journey was recorded through a camera that their student friend insisted on doing for the sake of letting others know what had happened to them. My point is, this storyline has been done to death, and while I am not aversed to a rehash concept, it would have to be written really well or delivered in a unique way to make me stand up and take notice.

So, anyway, back to the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombielicious!! July 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
It has been a while since I have read a good zombie book and I found one in this book. Unlike most zombie books this one doesn't always have a happy ending. Sometimes good people do get eaten. The characters are more like everyday people they don't have any special training and just when you think they are home free you couldn't be more wrong. I really hope there are more books about zombies from this author because I will be one of the first to get one. I am not one to give to much information away about a book, but take a chance one this one you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Zombie Read May 8, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This was a great read. It was a different take that had you go deep into the mind the the main person in the story. His self doubts and inter thinking offered a different look into what could be every persons mind if this really happened. I do agree the end was kind of mean and without hope but it did follow the story line. It is a must read for all zombie lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Zombtastic! July 9, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Ok, I have to start this review with a disclosure; I haven't actually finished reading it yet. I'm afraid I will forget alot of what I want to say if I wait. I found this book by a total fluke: the author didn't go the usual route and plug his book via the usual chat rooms, he posted the most innocuous, generic thread and I literally stumbled upon it just because it had the word "zombie" in it. Strike one. I read the description and noted NO REVIEWS. Strike two. Despite the bargain basement price, I only downloaded the sample. I read it. Home Run!!
COLD FAITH AND ZOMBIES is going to be my favorite book this year. I just know it. The writing is superb, the story is engaging and believable, the characters are people I would totally love to hang out with, zompocalypse or not.
Dredging through the overwhelming selection of zombie "books", after a while I was getting pretty discouraged. The same ol', same ol', yadda yadda. I know I was not alone. Many of my fellow zombiephiles felt the same way. Then I discovered this gem. This is a story (not a diary) of a regular guy, his wife and his best friend trying to escape the zombie scourge suddenly thrust upon them by the side effects of the good old H1N1 vaccination. Been there, done that. What is different about this is that the protagonist is not some survivalist with a basement full of guns and MRE's just waiting for some sort of doomsday, he is not some schmo who suddenly discovers a hidden talent in kicking undead ass, he is just a regular guy. A REAL guy. Mistakes are made, people die, NO ONE is indispensable. I'm only half way through and I've had quite a few "Oh my God!" moments, and even more "Holy Crap!" and "Oh no no no NO!". I've also cried.
