4.0 out of 5 stars pretty good..., April 24, 2007
This review is from: Cold (Audio CD)
this cd is actually surprisingly good...some people slam it, thinking it will be another Go-go's record or assuming it will be like Jane's solo stuff... and honestly, I wasn't too enthused about her solo projects, but... I really liked this album. It's raw, with energy and has just enough pop to it to keep it interesting. Im only sorry that this project didnt see more exposure. Im glad that I took a bit of a risk and purchased it. It's not too often that I am pleasantly surprised. Buy it and listen to it. you won't be disappointed

5.0 out of 5 stars This album is excellent and I completely disagree with the one star review, February 17, 2008
This review is from: Cold (Audio CD)
Sure it is the sound of a depressed midlife crisis, but saying she should release "a quiet acoustic collection" would strip Wiedlin of all the anger she feels, this album is raw and as rough an album a Go-Gos member will ever make. And that mix of the caustic with the sweetness of the Go-Gos is what makes this so great. Chord changes are awesome, and I'll have to listen a few more times but I think this might make it into my favorites of the 90s.

Here is the sound of someone becoming fed up with being nice and the abuse that comes with that as a result, and deciding to be their own person. The liners with a picture of the band in Star Trek uniforms shows the band do not care at all what anyone thinks of them, and that is beyond cool. This was criminally ignored in favor of the Gin Blossoms (Ugh), and I like this album because there is no pretense whatsoever, just great music. And that's the way it should be.

5.0 out of 5 stars one of my Desert Island top 10, March 2, 2005
This review is from: Cold (Audio CD)
Jane Weidlin rocks! Ok, so her label didn't give her band much support, but while they were busy pushing nauseating crap like Pearl Jam's XXX's piece of garbage, Jane was kicking butt with a fresh, fun, energetic romp through pop-rock. Her backing band is like Green Day, but with their schtuff together.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you like PowerPop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Fun Power Pop!!!, April 19, 2006

Please don't listen to the negative review below, I LOVE this album! It sounds like the reviewer below has some sort of personal grudge or gripe with Jane Wiedlin. If you like power pop with a punk edge, this album is for you! Anyone who has had problems in their life can relate to lyrics like "when I look back on my life, I feel just like a whore, and look what being nice got me," or " call me crazy, call me mad, this year was a drag, the worst I've had." The music is not true punk, but it definitely has some punk attitude. In "My Boyfriend," Jane starts out doing a sweet folk number about an ex. In the middle of the song, it suddenly turns into a slamming guitar fest with Jane screaming, "my boyfriend was a teenage hustler!" And it's a true story! I also find it interesting/fun/ironic that Jane has such a little girl voice but is singing such harsh lyrics. Jane is hardly a failure or a has-been. She has written hit songs recently for country singers, she tours and records with the Go-Go's, who are considered legendary. Frosted was very popular on the west coast, but their record company gave them zero support. And she has a website with recent photos, she looks hot! I don't know her in any way, but she seems like a nice, fun, cool person and I've been a fan for years. If you are a fan of edgy power pop/punk, do yourself a favor and get this CD!!!
