Great stuff but NOT first time on cd, Bear family beat you to the punch on that count when they re-issued these and several others last year. (And a typical fabulous Bear Family treatment of it) Even so, for us die hard Porter fans there are a few bonus tracks on here that make this possibly worth getting.

One of the best re-issues I have heard in a long time. This is classic, 1960's country music with an "edge." Porter Wagoner at his best! Songs of cheating wives, poverty, life as a convict, and many others. Several classic recitations by Porter as well. Great stuff.

This is the heart and soul of Country Music! Country music used to tell stories from real happenings along the road of life and these are some heartbreakers. Porter sings like he lived every situation he sings about. My personal favorite is, "They're All Goin' Home But One". I had searched for the album "Soul of a Convict" for 15 years having heard it as a child and it is all I remembered it to be. Enjoy! JP Minnesota

I first heard these song as a kid on 78 lps. I grew up loving the Porter Wagoner style of concept songs. I never figured I would be able to replace the lost albums so when I saw this I jumped on it. These songs may not be to everyones liking but they are high quality and I carry them on my IPOD just about anytime I travel. Its a good purchase with good songs.

I had this album a long time ago on LP. Them it was called Soul of a Convict. Glad it finally made it to CD.
