Best best DJ / electronica mix I've ever heard,
By Monkey Deathcar (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cold Krush Cuts (Audio CD)
There are a few other reviews so I'll keep this brief: I'm not a big fan of much electronic music, but I do like some DJ type stuff, a little trance, dub, etc. and I have some of Ninja Tune's catalogue, and this is bar none the best collection of its kind I've heard. Ninja Tune has covered a lot of ground, and DJ Krush and Coldcut give you an excellent overview in these two discs. On disc one, DJ Krush covers the downtempo, abstract jazz and more hip-hop inflected stuff from Ninja Tune. I personally prefer Disc 2 by Coldcut, where they get into some of the more frenetic abstract jazz and jungle that first attracted me to the label. Whatever side of that argument you fall on, these two DJs seemlessly lead the listener through a musical odyssey that covers significant ground, always stays interesting, and carries you from Point A to a very unpredictable and welcome destination. If you at all like the Ninja catalogue (Amon Tobin, Funki Porcini, etc.) this is can't miss -- easily the best Ninja comp yet.

incredible overview of the Ninja Tune back and front catalog,

Coldcut, DJ Food and DJ Krush team up in this amazing remix of Ninja Tune titles. The artists provide an interesting backdrop for the display of tracks by London Funk Allstars, Funki Porcini, Up, Bustle and Out, DJ Vadim, and too many others. If you have never heard of the Ninja Tune label (like me when i first got this cd) then I decree that you shall purchase this record and be transcended. -Natedonthemellophone

Dj Krush is simply the best triphop mixer out there, and this is one of his top 2 mixes... He flawlessley delves into the deepest recesses of the Ninja Tunes catalouge and produces on of the most briliant mixes ever put on CD....

This album is awesome! Its like a fight between two artists. one wants beats, the other wants turntables. This is beat science at its best!

This album is one of the greatest mixes I've ever heard. I listen to both discs almost every night, the themes, stories, turntablism, and samples on these two discs will keep you entertained for a long time.

The first 10 minutes of either CD is enough to 'sell' you on how good this album is. Very dark, serious music, and very well done. I have listened to the CD's dozens of times since I purchased this album (2 CD's) and it is just not getting old.
Not only is it a wonderful value (hi-quality double CD album, total of 125 minutes), but the music is great. Only downside is SOME of the tracks are a little 'meh', but not in a way that would impact my recommendation of this album.

Cd 1 Superb ( Hip-Hop Breakbeat) / Cd 2 (Downtempo) bliss,
By fetish_2000 (U.K.) - See all my reviews

This 2 Cd mix album has the mixing duties divided up between Disc 1 "Coldcut & DJ Food", remixing the artists of the "Ninja Tune" label, with anything as good as their solo albums....with mixes of tracks by Ninja Tune label-mates "Luke Vibert, Funki Porcini, Up Bustle & Out, DJ Vadim, the Herbaliser and Drome", for a dance-Orientated and eclectic mix, hand picking some of the most recognised tracks from the respected artists. "DJ Krush" on Disc 2 is given the same template to work to, yet he chooses far more laid back and intelligent course for his mixes which is in keeping with Krush's `Blunted' grooves manifesto, which is no quick run through, this stands with his own solo work, and as such is ideally suited for late night listening. And through the use of Stoned grooves, is very Reminiscent of these Kings of the Stoner Album sound "Kruder & Dorfmeister".....because this album captures the best of both world and is designed around either a more upbeat "Dance" cd (Coldcut & DJ Food's Cd) and the more restrained "Downtempo" (DJ Krush) and most surprisingly of all, this album could even appeal to people that aren't usually listeners of Hip-hop/Breakbeat.

great contrast from either sides of the globe!,

The songs on both CD's are incredible and memorable - it often finds it's way into my CD player, and the interlaced tracks mean it's easy to listen to. What I want to know is: Where can I get my hands on "get your head down" by Luke Vibert - my favorite song of all time... Worth the purchase - if only for that!

10 reviews, all 5 stars...no wonder,
This review is from: Cold Krush Cuts (Audio CD)
The first thing I usually think of after plugging in this album is, "Dorothy, we're not in hip hop anymore." DJ Krush has perfected that sound, but this album is his most focused effort, in my opinion. It's a long mix, so I don't recommend listening to it if you're going to be interrupted. Probably my favorite part of the album is about tracks 3 - 5 on "East", where the whole thing has about a 10 minute lead in to a super chill beat. Another highlight on that disc is "Knee deep in the beats". Overall, the flow never stops. Sometimes, there are somewhat abrupt transitions with key changes, but other times he totally nails it. (That's what you miss with MP3s.)
The other disc, "West," is done more by DJ Food. He can be more dramatic, and he's into poetry and such. I don't think that sort of stuff is as interesting for multiple listens. But there are still some high points on that album. "Naked Leaves" is really soulful. Some of his other stuff can have a somewhat dark Japanese sound. I think this one is a little more trippy. Overall, I'd like to see more efforts like this.

This compilation pulls together some the best tracks and sounds from this time period. Still fresh sounding over 10 years later, this compendium is well worth the money. Highly recommended. Fresh beats, good segues and mixes... Excellent. This was Ninja Tune's heyday.
