Book Description

December 22, 2011
A tale of timeless love, heroic courage . . . and a race to change the course of destiny itself.  I couldn't put it down.  This is King Arthur as you've never seen him before.  --Anna Elliott, author of the Twilight of Avalon trilogy.

By the autumn of 537 AD, all who are loyal to King Arthur have retreated to a small parcel of land in north Wales. They are surrounded on all sides, heavily outnumbered, and facing near certain defeat.

But Myrddin and Nell, two of the King's companions, have a secret that neither has ever been able to face: each has seen that on a cold and snowy day in December, Saxon soldiers sent by Modred will ambush and kill King Arthur.

And together, they must decide what they are willing to do, and to sacrifice, to avert that fate.

About the Author

With two historian parents, Sarah couldn't help but develop an interest in the past. She went on to get more than enough education herself (in anthropology) and began writing fiction when the stories in her head overflowed and demanded she let them out.  While her ancestry is Welsh, she only visited Wales for the first time while in college.  She has been in love with the country, language, and people ever since. She even convinced her husband to give all four of their children Welsh names.

She makes her home in Oregon.

5.0 out of 5 stars She had me at "Myrddin" May 3, 2011
Format:Paperback
One of my favorite books as a child was The Crystal Cave : Book One of the Arthurian Saga (The Arthurian Saga, Book 1), and I still fondly remember young Myrddin Emrys. I smiled when I saw that was the name of one of the main characters.

The other thing that made me smile was that this is a story for adults with adult heroes. Nell is- gasp!- all of 30 and Myrddin is 36. Of course that's not old at all, but refreshing in a market where so many stories are targeted to young adults, even Arthurian stories.

While sex- and rape- are referenced here, it is not depicted; this has no graphic or explicit sexual content. However, violence and death do come up several times in a realistic way. It is not gory, but it is unsentimental. Again, an adult story for adults.

"The sight" plays a big role in this story, and I would be disappointed if it didn't. Throughout the book, the characters- and the readers- constantly grapple with how much of the future can be changed. I think the reader will be satisfied with what the characters find.

I devoured this story and grew attached to the characters. I sincerely hope the author writes a sequel- I'd like to find out what else happens to Nell and Myrddin.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous and Unique King Arthur story April 25, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I absolutely loved this unique and very different version of the King Arthur legend. The story is told through the eyes of Myrddin, one of Arthur's knights, and Nell, a young former nun. Both share visions of Arthur's coming death at the battle of Camlann, and unite in a race to change Arthur's destiny and the future of Britain. The story is fast-paced and yet beautifully told, the growing romance between Myrddin and Nell is compelling, and the history of a dark and brutal--and yet heroic--time leaps from the page. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining trip into Arthurian Wales August 24, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I didn't want to like this book. It was sitting in my backlog of Kindle free books, and I only reluctantly started it because I was running out of reading material on vacation. I was certain it would be just another book about King Arthur. I was pleasantly surprised when it proved me wrong.

While the Arthurian court provides a backdrop and characters to flesh out this story, the plot is centered around two original characters who are a delight to read about. There is nothing very romantic about this world: there is a war going on, and people are dying, being tortured. However, the book portrays the violence of the time without resorting to graphic depictions of battle.

I would definitely recommend this book. With a rich world, round and dynamic characters, and an interesting plot, the book definitely keeps you entertained until the very end.
