1.0 out of 5 stars Vegetarian? December 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Chicken broth doesn't cut it in a cookbook purporting to be for vegetarians. Beyond that, the first recipe I looked at with thoughts of following (Spicy Mac and Cheese) left out directions for the broth and a number of other ingredients. Given it's a slow cooker recipe, presumably they can be thrown in willy nilly, but the book needs editing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Quite Vegetarian December 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are some delicious looking recipes in this book, but the author kind of missed the idea of "Vegetarian". A lot of the recipes call for chicken broth, and one actually calls for chicken! I think most of these could be easily substituted with vegetable broth, and just leave out the chicken on the one recipe that calls for it.

I haven't made anything from the cookbook yet, but the recipes look like really good food with complex flavors. The biggest downside that I see is that most of them will require a trip to the store, as a lot of the spices are not necessarily ones you would have on hand.

1.0 out of 5 stars Obviously the author doesn't know what vegetarian is November 30, 2012

The author obviously doesn't know what vegetarian is. For example, many recipes call for vegetable OR chicken broth. Vegetarians do not consume chicken broth. Also, some recipes call for fish sauce. Vegetarians do not consume fish sauce. There's other sauces out there that can be used in place of fish sauce. Disappointing...

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT Vegetarian January 28, 2013

Ask any vegetarian what the most devious trick played upon them by non-vegs, and they will tell you, it is to have animal products covertly added to you food. An idea as repellent as this seems to be encouraged in VEGETARIAN Slow cooker recipes. One should never encourage the idea to incorporate a chicken broth dishonestly in something labeled meatless as this author seems to have done on numerous recipes.
Paul Allen should have picked up a Merriam-Webster at the very least before writing this

Definitely love this! Allen's humorous writing made this book easy and enjoyable. I'm not a good cook and not very fond of cooking either but this one makes everything easy to do and follow.

4.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring recipes August 29, 2013

There are some really inspiring recipes in this book that vegetarians can do at home. Although there are some recipes that call for things like chicken broth. But as a vegetarian, you know you can substitute this with vegetable broth.
