Editorial Reviews

A rare horror sequel that lives up to the standard set by its predecessor, the Norwegian thriller Cold Prey II is an effective follow-up to the 2006 snow-bound stalker film as well as a high-tension chillfest on its own. Ingrid Bolsø Berdal (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) returns as the sole survivor of the mountaintop massacre depicted in the first film; rescued while wandering through the icy Jotunheimen region, she is taken to a remote hospital where, as it so happens, the body of the parka-clad maniac who claimed the lives of her boyfriend and companions is also cooling in the morgue. Even the most fresh-faced horror fan knows that killers presumed dead rarely stay dead, and soon the mountain man is picking off the hospital staff while Berdal and a nurse (Marthe Snorresdotter Rovik) fight for their lives. While clearly indebted to the '70s-'80s American slasher cycle (especially the "hospital horror" subgenre embodied by Halloween II and Visiting Hours), Cold Prey II is far from a simple tribute/carbon, thanks largely to Mats Stenberg's effective direction, which offers a well-balanced mix of mounting tension and jump cuts, and Berdal's performance, which shifts from victim to avenger with impressive power and physicality. Genre fans seeking a fresh take on the stalk-and-slash picture, as well as fans of the first film, will be pleased with this entirely worthy sequel. The DVD offers a Norwegian-only audio track (with English subtitles) in addition to a seven-plus-minute collection of (mostly inconsequential) deleted or extended scenes, as well as the original theatrical trailer. --Paul Gaita

Product Description

Having survived the hideous ordeal in the Jotunheimen mountains in which four of her friends were murdered, the badly injured Jannicke is brought to the local hospital, along with the body of the vicious mountain man whom she’d killed. But when she wakes up in the hospital, the building is dark and deserted…and she soon realizes that her nightmare is not yet over.

Starring Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Cold Prey, Chernobyl Diaries, Hansel And Gretel: Witch Hunters), Cold Prey II delivers its chills with paralyzing, white-knuckle precision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie and an Awesome DVD July 4, 2009
A truly dramatic and well thought out thriller. Definitely a must-see. Don't any attention to the reviewer who says this is a poor quality "bootleg". Its not. This is the official singapore release that is all-region NTSC and will play in the USA. It is anamorphic widescreen and comes well packaged in a nice glossy slipcase. Whether or not you saw the first installment, this is a good movie, and a good DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars COLD PREY 2 is super HOT!!! November 3, 2009
Wow Wow Wow is all i have to say! this movie blew me away. I watched part 1 on DVD which is currently out at your local BlockBuster. It was a better than average slasher film with some likable characters. Some nice scenery and gore. It was, i would give it a 3 1/2 stars... you really dont need to watch Part 1 to watch Part 2. All you need to know is a bunch of kids go snow boarding (i know it sounds boring) and they get picked off one by one by a mysterious killer wearing an AWESOME SCARY WINTER PARKA so you never see the killers face (which is great)... anyhow, Part 2 is so well directed and the tension builds up quickly. The main survivor of Part 1 is now in a hospital, that is pretty secluded mind ya (which we all love to hear right??) and Its sort of like Halloween 2 where she is stuck there. I wont tell you anything else but when the cops return to the hospital/morgue with the bodies of all her friends they also return someone or something that NOBODY EXPECTED!!! WATCH IT. I DOUBT ANYONE WILL TRASH THIS MOVIE... IT'S very very enjoyable and and any slasher fan will LOVE THIS. PS i have this on DVD and NOT BOOTLEG. its around. just keep searching for it.. and you'll find it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Pleased With This Movie! May 7, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This movie starts with the ending of the original movie, COLD PREY, and never stops. It is very creepy, very atmospheric, and the acting team is spot-on! If you liked Cold Prey, you will love this one! If you want to watch a really good horror movie, I strongly recommend this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars DVD Review: "Cold Prey II" March 18, 2013
There's just something about the country of Norway that lends itself to being the perfect location for a horror film. Maybe it's the image most people have of it being desolate, cold, dark, and isolated. It might also have something to do with the fact that 90 percent of the music we hear coming out of the country is death or black metal. "Cold Prey II" definitely doesn't help give movie audiences an alternate view of what to expect if you plan a ski trip to that part of the world.

After surviving a horrific killing spree at an abandoned ski lodge, a college girl named Jannicke (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) is taken to a remote hospital for treatment. She tells her story to the local police who decide to investigate her claims. They return hours later with the bodies of her four friends and the mountain man responsible for the massacre. Unfortunately, the monstrous murderer isn't dead and begins slaughtering the patients, nurses, and doctors in his mission to finish what he started with Jannicke.

"Cold Prey II" is the perfect example of a modern slasher film done right. Although it brings nothing new to the table, it manages to keep up a level of suspense and delivers some legitimate jump scares at the same time.

I couldn't shake the feeling that director Mats Stenberg and writer Thomas Moldestad were doing their own version of "Halloween II" and "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter" for a Norwegian audience. Like those classic 1980s films, much of the action takes place in a hospital. The vision of the giant killer in "Cold Prey II" standing at the end of a corridor with the lights blinking reminded me of the same type of scenes in the sequels to John Carpenter and Sean S. Cunningham's iconic originals.

After surviving the brutal murder spree at the abandoned mountain hotel, Yannicke (Ingrid Bolsø Berdal) is found stranded in the snow by a rescue worker. She's taken to the local hospital where she reveals the story of the massacre of her friends at the ski lodge by the masked psychopath Geir (Robert Follin, who replaced the first film's Rune Melby). Upon investigating the scene of the crime, the police discover & retrieve the corpses of Yannicke's friends along with the murderer. Unluckily for the staff and patients of the hospital, however, Dr. Hermann (Fridtjov Såheim) decides to play hero and save the vicious mass murderer who had shown brief signs of life. This spells bad news for everyone as Geir breaks free and goes on yet another vicious murder spree through the hospital.

Taking an obvious page from the book of the `Halloween' franchise, rookie filmmaker Mats Stenberg, taking over for the first film's director Roar Uthaug, moves the `Fritt Vilt' story out of the lodge and into the hospital, very much like Laurie Strode's experience in `Halloween II.' It seemed, at first, that this sequel would lose the feel of the first film due to the change in location, but it ended up not losing a beat at all. In fact, everything in this sequel seemed boosted by the location change. The story gets moving quickly, but still manages to get in enough character development to give viewers a bit of interest for the soon-to-be victims. This is a very refreshing as the slasher subgenre is famous for its lack of character development, using characters more as props for the killer to slaughter in various ways. But, worry not, the characters here still suffered their own share of vicious & creative murders.

This is one of the few horrors that doesn't over do it with gore and guts. The killer isn't supernatural and it sticks to basics that make horrors good from the get go. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining slasher film!
Just as good as the original with a bigger bodycount and even more suspense. A must own for any slasher fan.

The DVD is Region 0 (not Region 3) and is worth the money.
