Book Description

[NEW re-edited, new material August 2003] Cold River: a survivor's story is about man's desire for freedom during a time when none existed. Jozef describes the village in which he grew up with such emotion and sadness that the reader can hear the snow crunching beneath his expectant mother's feet as she makes her way through the snow drifts. This story is fact, not fiction, when you are finished you will know what it is like to taste freedom for the first time. And perhaps feel pain of its cost.

5.0 out of 5 stars Freedom and life August 11, 2009
Jozef's tale of the getting of freedom is a layered journey from childood to youth under an oppressive and invasive regime which disregarded and individual's freedom. It is truly a rich book in every way. I was touched by the family stories where story telling and playfulness prevailed, people had time for each other, something missing in today's capitalist and individualistic regime. I experienced a gammut of emotions reading this book, laughter, sadness, awe, fear, anger..... I felt sad reading about the frustation, helplessness that the family felt when loosing their daughter/ sister Aga to a disease that was surely a product of the bad practices of communisim. Above all for me Jozef's book make me beg the question do we have freedom today ???
