4.0 out of 5 stars excellent read
It is easy to see why this author won a Zora Neale Hurston award! It is a visit into the historical, mythical past in the South before, during, and just after the Civil War from the point of view of Native American mothers and daughters. The author takes the reader on a quest to discover just who the main character really is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Read something similar and got bored.
I quickly became bored after beginning this book. I observed close similarities (and at one point an identical sentence) of another book I had just completed. I had to put the book away until I stop comparing it to the other book. I will pick it up again, but not too soon because I know the author writes very well.
