The cold steel mini pal knife is really small, making them ideal for women. they are razor sharp, be extra careful when handling, the knife is a bit tight to pull out.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's gone!
I loved this little knife but it fit so loosely in the sheath that it frequently fell out. I used it as a key chain but that led to it falling out almost immediatly. I used it in a loose pocket and it would come unsheathed every time. Reaching into your pocket for you wallet etc and encountering the bare blade was not a pleasant surprise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Secure & durable, February 18, 2008

I got this item as a gift when I was living alone & taking daily walks. It's a GREAT little safety knife! I NEVER had it fall out of it's keychain holder, even when I threw my keys in the bottom of my purse-o-junk. It was extremely easy to release the pressure clip with my finger to remove it from the cover. It's small & fits between fingers nicely. I also felt like I could carry it between my fingers/in a fist while walking without feeling like I was making it obvious that I was carrying a knife. I'd keep it in the cover/attached to my keychain & hold the handle as I walked to my car -easy to get to my keys that way & to release it should I be approached. I'm thankful I never had to use it, but the way it's designed really seems like it would be very difficult for an attacker to pry it out of your hand. It was also nice & sharp! I lent it to a friend who lost it & I'll definitely be getting another one!

5.0 out of 5 stars very nice., February 26, 2007
don't buy this if you're expecting a big push knife. the blade itself is no longer than maybe 1". however, this is an excellent, high-quality knife. the feel of the handle is just right, with enough texture to feel comfortable and secure, but not rough. the distance between the handle and the bottom of the blade is just right to protrude through a closed fist. the blade itself was literally razor sharp. the sheath is excellent. it will NOT fall out, but comes out easily with a tug, and snaps into place with no problem.

one of these clipped on your belt loop or keyring will always be handy, and never at risk of falling out. a great buy, for either self-defense or utility. (though you might just piss someone off, hitting them with a blade this small!)

I used it in a loose pocket and it would come unsheathed every time. Reaching into your pocket for you wallet etc and encountering the bare blade was not a pleasant surprise.

So, I kept having to change how and where I carried it. I was giving it one last chance and the blade vanished.

I still worry about where and when it will show up....It's a shame because the blade itself was very handy, sharp and useful. It just needs a better design on how it fits/stays in the sheath..

5.0 out of 5 stars misunderstood little knife, May 8, 2011

This review is from: Cold Steel 43NSK Mini Pal Knife (Sports)
The Cold Steel Mini-Pal is a tiny 1 inch blade push knife. I've carried one off and on for twenty years, they're so small you tend to lose them occasionally and one was stolen by a valet (left it on my key ring like a dummy). So needless to say I'm a fan of this little guy. For me it's always been the epitome of a convenient utility knife, I've never had to use it defensively and hope I never will.

The part of this little guy that is misunderstood is in its use as a defensive weapon. Long ago when they were first introduced before PC made such things unacceptable Cold Steel had a video on its use as a defensive weapon. Believe me, when used correctly this is truly a viscous little instrument of destruction. I've tried it on corrugated boxes and a few other things, holy crap does it do damage.

First to hold the knife correctly it should protrude from between the middle and ring fingers with the serrated side toward the ring finger. Now here is the part that is misunderstood; The Mini-Pal is NOT a stabbing weapon, it's a slashing weapon. Now close you fist TIGHT and drive it in with a punching motion. DON'T pull your fist back, while pushing your fist forward rip sideways toward the outside of your hand. You'll find this is actually a very natural motion and after a few tries the punch and the rip become one continuous, incredibly quick, motion.

For those who say this little guy will just make someone angry, they have been watching too many Rambo movies. You're not dealing with a little shallow stab wound, you're dealing with a slash an inch deep and several inches long. Your assailant is going to jump back by reflex. Arm, leg, hand, face it makes no difference, your assailant is going to be a lot more interested in their wound than messing with you. And if they're stupid enough to press the attack nail them again.

Hope this helps - Ry

This was supposed to be an ultra compact, ultra fast-deploying knife that could be carried on one's person in a number of different ways. The idea is that you clip this thing somewhere on you, go about your business, and when the situation arises that you need to cut or stab something or someone, you grab the mini-pal and yank it out of the sheath. Instant deployment. Quick, convenient, lightweight, and discreet. Unfortunately, in reality, this knife does not work as advertised. The knife itself is fine- it's a tiny piece of stamped steel. When the knife is in your hand, it cuts...- pretty hard to screw that up. The problem comes when you try to CARRY it. The sheath is WORTHLESS- I clipped it to my belt loop, and the knife fell out. I clipped it to my keychain, the knife fell out. I clipped it to a cord around my neck, the knife fell out. I consider myself lucky to have found this tiny knife after the numerous times it had fallen out, and lucky that I realized it was missing soon after it fell out- it's a pretty crushing feeling to reach for something you expect to be there, and it's not there, espectially something that's potentially dangerous (how would you feel mowing your lawn knowing that somewhere in the grass there's a tiny little serrated knife just begging to be launched by a mower blade in whatever direction it pleases?).

So how else do they expect me to carry this thing? Put it in its sheath by itself and drop it in my pocket? That means I'd have to pull out the whole package- knife and sheath, hold the sheath in one hand and pull the knife out with the other and completely negate the intended advantage of quick one-handed deployment. I might as well carry a folding knife. At least with most of those you can "flick" the blade open with one hand, and while the sheath sucks on this mini-pal you can't just "flick" it off(and if you could, good luck finding it after a scuffle).

The reason this knife got two stars instead of one is that the blade IS pretty lethal to envelopes and cardboard boxes or anything else that I need to cut apart while I'm SITTING AT MY DESK, because that's where this knife lives now- sitting in a drawer, just waiting to open some mail with a vengeance.
If you want to buy a knife that's going to get lost, or you like putting your hand in your pocket and feeling a vicious little serrated fixed blade uncaged and hanging out among your loose change, or even if you have a taste for $20 letter openers, then this knife is definitely for you. Otherwise look somewhere else for your usable knife needs.

Shame on you Cold Steel

2.0 out of 5 stars Too loose in the sheath, December 24, 2010

This is a nice little knife, but it cannot be hung from a key ring or anything you access daily because it comes out of the sheath too easily. I understand there is a need for that in a lot of circumstances, but if you lose the knife because it fell out of cheap sheath, how well the knife performs is irrelevant. Some sort of locking mechanism, or at least an option for one, rather than friction, would make this a four or five star personal defense tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Perfect Friend to Have Along, November 28, 2010

This review is from: Cold Steel 43NSK Mini Pal Knife (Sports)
One of the problems with carrying a knife along with you is that it LOOKS like a knife. This can raise all kinds of uncomfortable questions or put people off. One of the features of the Cold Steel Mini Pal Knife is that it does not look like a knife when it is in its sheath. It could be a bottle opener, screwdriver, some sort of key, etc. You get my point. Not only is it small and unobtrusive, but it does not look knife like or threatening.

Deployed from its sheath and gripped in your fist it give you a substantial advantage in deflecting unwanted attention. I think one huge advantage of a "PUSH" style knife is it's ease of use. Put it between your fingers and make a fist. A would be trouble maker sees you are prepared to protect yourself. The bright polished finish on the blade and the serration's present of formable image.

Beyond its self-defence capabilities the Mini Pal is a superb EDC (Everyday Carry) knife. It cuts through all types of packaging materials including the dreaded CLAMSHELL.

A tool is no good if you don't have it with you. The Mini Pal is so small and light you will have no problem having it along at all times. The Kraton handle is comfortable and allows a firm grip.

Don't let its diminutive size fool you, the Mini Pal is a real tool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for people shy about knives, November 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I bought this knife for my girlfriend because she likes to run at night. It's so small it fits anywhere and yet because of the way you wield it it is a very formidable weapon. I also feel like it's perfect for those who may be a bit clumsy with a knife. Basically due to the way you withdraw and hold it it's dummy proof. You also don't need to know how to use a knife with the mini pal, simply use it like an extension of the fist and swing away. I will say this, however, because of it's size it is easy to misplace (my girlfriend lost it within the first week).
