Product Description

As its name suggests, our G.I. Tanto is a no-nonsense tactical knife that comes with a legion of practical uses. It may be lean and spare, but it delivers the goods where they count the most! The broad Tanto point blade, integral quillon guard, and Polypropylene handle scales, exemplify a tactical knife stripped down to its bare essentials. It's ground razor sharp out of 1055 carbon steel with a hard spring temper and protected by a black, rust resistant finish so it's ready to take all the abuse you and Mother Nature can dish out. Heavy, sharp and wonderfully balanced, it's easy to throw by either the blade or handle and it hits with real vigor. In a survival or self-defense situation, it can be quickly and easily converted into a spear or war club. Just remove the handle scales and lash the blade securely to a suitable wooden shaft! Best of all, it's a great value. Please don't throw away hundreds and hundreds of dollars on similar knives sold by convicted felons and rip off artists posing as elite "military operators". Get the real G.I. Tanto from Cold Steel and get more than your money's worth.

This knife arrived 3 days before the scheduled delivery, and man its a sweet knife.

Box contents:
- Packaged VERY well
- coupons, return instructions (30 day return policy and they include the paperwork to send it back), and a magazine FILLED with knifes, personal protection gear, etc.
- Knife (I would hope they remembered this!)
- Sheath (in its own wrapping)

The knife came decently sharp. I was always told if you can cut through a single piece of paper (from the edge, not just stabbing it ha) smoothly and it doesn't catch or pull on the paper, you have a sharp knife. this one was sharp.

The weight of the knife is GREAT. The grip is perfect size (I'm 6'0" 180lb man). It feels very well constructed. The knife also came slightly oiled to keep the blade fresh and clean (thanks guys!).

The sheath is made from a hard plastic. the straps are good quality. The knife "clicks" into the sheath and seems very secure. I believe someone else mentioned here you cannot simply mount the knife around your ankle. The sheath is made to carry the knife around your belt. I'm sure you could find another strap for your ankle but I don't know how sturdy this would be.

All in all, VERY happy with this knife. I'm a person who reads every review of an item before purchasing. this was the best knife I could find on Amazon around the $25 mark. If you like me, and your sick of reading reviews, BUY THIS KNIFE.

I was motivated to buy this knife after countless 5-star reviews on the internet and good feedback here on Amazon. I also I wanted a good fixed blade to throw in an extra bag that comes with me everywhere. And on to my personal review!

Pros:
Secure-Ex Kydex sheath on new gen models for FREE
Knife is a tank - Very sturdy build and tight fitment of scales
Sharp out of the box - Not a hair shaver but you can get it there with one or two strokes on a stone.
Handguards are a plus - With the plastic scales, things can get slippery when wet and the handguards are extra security!
Cold Steel Quality Standards
Bolt-on plastic scales - Provide the option to remove and paracord, texturize, or leave as-is.
$25 price tag for a $45 (or more) value easily

Cons:
1055 Carbon steel very prone to rust - More so than 1075 or 1095
Chinese Manufacture - Although not an immediate bad thing, more prone to blemishes, flaws, and defects (I seem to have picked up a good batch and have not heard of any bad ones for this blade).
Non-Ergonomic - I understand the knife is built on a tanto platform, and meant to look "chiseled and angled", however even the handle, choke, and handguards are pretty straight angled which reduce comfort during harder tasks.

Features:
Identical scale to picture on box, and highly detailed markings on packaging as well as full warranty disclosure on back of box. No cheesy misspelled words or bad translation/Chinese characters. Good looking design in an affordable package. Thank you, Cold Steel!

I can't say much about this blade's performance in the field, but judging from most online reviews, I'd say it's pretty damn good for what it is! As for me, I am very happy with it and throwing it in my BOB as we speak! Hope this review helped many to make a decision on a very affordable value package!

This knife is hard to, if at all, beat for the money. Let's get the fact that it has CHINA stamped into the blade base out of the way now. If that ruins it for you then don't bother but you will be missing out on a bad ass knife. I find that most knives made in China are garbage but there are exeptions like this knife and the Spyderco Tenacious/Persistance line, etc.

This Knife is an absolute Tank! Its just one, thick, durable, stamped piece of steel. Full tang solidity at its best. This is a heavy knife indeed but I wouldn't call it un-wieldy at all. The balance is nice for a knife this size. Another reviewer said this knife gives one a feeling of security when held and I could't agree more. It is like magic, when simply removing the knife from the sheath, one recieves an instantaneous feeling of confidence, power and peace of mind.

The blade on mine had a nice sharp edge out of the box but of course I honed her to my standards. The point on this tanto is sharp yet stout and I have zero doubt one could stab it through a car door or hood without damaging the tip as proven in the videos. I have only used it around the yard but have batoned wood for my fire pit with it and was happy with the results and lack of wear on the knife.

One reviewer stated this knife would be 5 stars for sure if it wasn't for the handle and I could't agree more. I have large hands with long fingers. Not meathooks but I do wear 2XXL gloves. Like a basketball players hands(minus the jump shot) as I can palm a basketball. The GI Tanto feels good in my hand weight and balance wise but the smooth polymer handles are not at all grippy. A bit slick in fact. With gloves its not any better.

This knife is a great value. It's aggressive looking and according to destruction tests it holds up better than knives that cost 15x more. Make sure to get the knife with the Secure-ex sheath as it is far superior to the normal nylon sheath. Make sure to shop around Amazon to find the knife that includes it.
