Product Description

Fashioned entirely in the United States of premium straight grained Ash specially selected to be free of all knots or flaws, the Walkabout XL is a prime example of the pride our craftsman take in their work. With a length of 37 inches, a weight of 21 ounces and a 2 1/3" knob the Walkabout XL provides an extra sturdy balancing aid for traversing rough, slippery or uneven ground. It also serves as a pointer, probe, lever and emergency defensive tool. Each Walkabout XL is turned from a 3 1/2" ash blank, carefully sanded and stained for visual appeal and then coated in clear polyurethane to protect it from the elements. Few other American hardwoods are better suited than Ash for a walking stick as it stands up to continuous use and is tough enough to withstand hard knocks. Every Walkabout XL comes complete with a brass ferrule that protects the stick from cracking or the excessive wear associated with concrete sidewalks and city streets.

I am 6ft and weigh 235. I wanted a walking stick that I could lean on and not feel like it would give at the wrong time. This is it. Very solid, very pretty, and I found the replacement rubber tips for canes sold at the drug store will slip right on the brass end for use on hard surfaces like sidewalks. I am very happy with this.

The Walkabout XL is perfect for an outdoor walking stick. It is sturdy and the workmanship is excellent. I'm sure that with the addition of a rubber tip, it would make a good indoor use cane replacement. In a pinch, the substantial size of the stick would make it a reasonable defense weapon. This is not a rickety little cane. It is a sturdy support with a more than adequate head.

Solid and simple. Truly a walking stick to be relied upon. I would walk into any room with the aid of this piece of wood. Could use a leash ... I used SuperTack cord to wrap the head and make a lanyard.
