Wow! A Superlative Martial Arts Instructional DVD Set,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Guro Ron Balicki is a well respected teacher in the martial arts world, so it should come as no surprise that this video set is such high quality. The very first DVD will give most people enough stuff to practice for months (and hopefully contine to practice for years). For example, Balicki covers a 30 count striking pattern and says that beginners usually just get the first 4 counts. You could spend a while memorizing and practicing the pattern. The footwork and entries can be usefully applied to any combative art. You can see how they are extensions of Filipino knife work. Balicki takes a small bit of time to cover some of the history and vocabulary of the art. Did you know that western boxers stopped holding their hands way out in front due to the influence of Filipino styles after the American occupation? I didn't, but it makes perfect sense. American boxing also took much of it's footwork from the Philippines. Watch early 20th century movies of boxers to see how they would stand there with their arms out slugging eachother. Of course, this is a combative art so it also covers kicking, which is very different from Thai or karate style kicking. There are limb destructions, defenses, grappling, hubad drills, etc. I am amazed at the sheer amount of material contained in these DVDs. Expereinced martial artists (I have over 20 years) can get a lot of godo material from these DVDs. I'm always looking for new drills for my students, and there are many skill-builders here. The methods of striking aren't radically different than what most are used to, but the way combinations are put together, and the entries probably will be.

Amazing Kali/Silat,
By
This review is from: Cold Steel Ron Balicki's Filipino Boxing #VDFB
This stuff is just amazing. When I first bought the DVD-set a year ago I was shocked on how much I can learn and benefit(knowledge wise/self-protection) from this DVD. In this DVD-set you will learn Kali(Silat, South Philippines). This DVD-set contains: -Footwork(A-Z) -Kicks -Entries to Jab and Cross(Lead Hand and Rear Hand series) -Limb destruction and Kunsi Lock-Flow -Various sets of Focus-mitt drills((Jab-Cross series, Jab-Hook series, Triple-Jab series, Jab-Cross Hook series)) -Hubud(over 60 variations of Hubud including single-hand, neck, knees, switches) -Take-downs including Throwing! Dumog/Buno -Chieftain Series 1-22 -Egyptian Series 1-8 -Gaja Series 1-6 -Octopus Series 1-6 -Armbar Series What makes this DVD-set so good is Ron Balicki's skills in teaching. He explains how every move should be executed. My background in fighting is Boxing and a lot of street fights. I'm not trying to show off just trying to say that this DVD-set contains material that you should definitely study and learn. Definitely worth your money. Filipino Boxing is not like any other boxing art out there. It is really a combat-based art like no other. You can see the influence Filipino boxing has on modern day boxing ...and I'm not talking about Manny Pacquiao. Right now I'm saving up for Ron Balicki's Fighting Sarong DVD. PS: Mr. Ron Balicki, WE NEED MORE OF FILIPINO BOXING! Do us that favor, THANK YOU.
