5.0 out of 5 stars Not for the weak of wrist, December 12, 2010
This review is from: 1917 Cutlass, Leather Scabbard (Misc.)
I purchased the saber version many years ago from Cold Steel. It is a well made and a heavy, sturdy weapon. The item came packed in what appeared to be cosmoline to prevent it from rusting in warehouse storage. I cleaned it up with alcohol and acetone, and applied auto wax to the metal finish. The item has yet to rust with proper care and waxing.

This item is heavy and the balance portion of the Cutlass is far forward from the hilt. This is standard for a weapon that is also designed to chop. It will take a great deal of wrist strength to wield the item properly. Be careful, this item is no toy!

Also do not leave the item in its scabbard. The item has a leather scabbard that will attract moisture that may rust the item.
I keep mine in the open on a display rack.

Ok, first, OW. It's got poke and sharp all over it. It sliced in twain the two boxes it came in. With minimal effort I might add. It does everything the videos on you tube showed. Go look it up. I'm now looking forward to the zombie apocalypse. At least until I get tired and bored of popping zombie melons with this awesome chunk of steel mayhem.

this thing is sturdy. I would wear a good leather glove with this if you plan to do some heavy chopping. Not katana sharp, but you could separate a limb with out too much trouble. Its so well put together that I want to take lessons from a qualified instructor.

Pefectly packed and it arrived early. Props to the seller. It's my first sword (I own a lot of knives and machetes) and I am glad that I waited to get this one. For under 200, you get a very durable, yet elegant, tool. I am inexperienced when it comes to handling a sword, but found this one to be very easy to use. I've heard others say it's a bit heavy, to which I say "go to the gym."

The sheath is very nice and durable. I especially like the swivel joint on the belt loop, making drawing very easy. My only complaint is that the leather is beige in color, I wish it was a deep brown like the handle of the sword. Speaking of handles, the handle is quite comfortable and the hand guard is very tough.

One thing that really impressed me was the signed certificate showing the various tests the individual sword passed. It takes a great company to stand by their products like that and take the time to make sure you're getting something great.

I own many Cold Steel products, and they've yet to dissapoint me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sword, June 12, 2011

Pleasantly surprised, very solid, well made sword. I was happy with all aspects, except the scabbard. I was disappointed in it. The scabbard did not have the quality work of the sword, nor did it fit the sword well. Sword 5 stars, scabbard 2 or 3 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Close Quarter Weapon, June 5, 2011

I bought this to fight off any future intruders in the hall way of my house. This will do the trick! It is heavy, the hand guard alone will break a jaw while throwing a punch. The blade is heavy and sharp. If it does not cut off a gun mans hand outright , the weight of the blade will break a wrist with one down stroke. I work out with it in the back yard with campaign posters and milk bottles to practice lunges and strokes. I did a casual tennis style backhand to a water filled plastic milk bottle and sliced it in two pieces effortlessly. A lunge from this will go all the way through the body and be a fatal blow. The longer Cold Steel swords would be harder to weld in the hall way of my house plus they are even heavier! This is a great starter sword. It is heavy, great work out tool. And it will never run out of bullets!
