The katana machete let's you swing something akin to a sword without worrying bout losing a massive amount of money. If your thinking bout getting a beater "sword" this should be your first stop. Once you sharpen this bad boy up you can cut through most things without much trouble or fear of a broken blade. For the money, you can't beat it....If you just wanna let off some steam, cut some brush, make a video slicing through sides of beef, or preparing for the zombie apocalypse, this is the item for you.
The blade needed no sharpening or touching up, like some blades I have ordered from other places before. The medium carbon steel blade is easy to resharpen if you have a mishap and hit stone or bone. I can't wait for the sheath to arrive. It is sold seperately, but at a reasonable price. The sheath is also a back mount type. It would be a chore I believe to try and carry this item on your side.
The balance is very good on this tool also. Almost dead center of the overall length. I did wrap the handle in sports tape due to the sleek molded plastic handle. The handle is durable, but if wet could become a little slippery.
I purchased this item specificly as an apocalyptic tool and am very satisfied. I have become a big fan of the Cold Steel product line. This item is sure to please as a self purchase or as a gift.
quite the contrary. i've swung this thing full power at all sorts of stuff without a single buckle bend or chip on the blade. holds an edge pretty good, came ready to use sharp.
it's much larger than it looks like in the picture.
very high quality item. prolly gonna buy a few more for man-presents for christmas this year.
This one is modeled on the standard Ninja-to sword that a Ninja might carry. Thats exactly what it is, an inexpensive and very sturdy short-sword with a blade forged from 1055 steel. I have the version with the 24 inch blade. Its a very solidly constructed piece of cutlery, with a fairly good edge, right out of the box. Not only is this item a high quality brush-cutting tool, it has great potential as a battlefield-tool. I would issue this to Marine Corps Force Reconaissance teams deploying in jungle areas. Watch the Cold Steel cutting demonstrations to see the true potential!
Cold Steel never leaves me disappointed!
... as for the usefulness of this as a tool or a weapon, i agree that it's not perfectly suited to either. conversely, i love the design for being more of a hybrid of the two. i'm in love with this machete's grip. +1 on wrapping it, but i chose a very thin paracord because i didn't want to add much girth or weight to the handle, as it's thick and already satisfactorily balanced if i want to throw it. i'd say it's more suited as a weapon, but well suited for cutting larger brush/branches. because the blade isn't extra wide at the tip, this requires you to know or learn how to hold this machete properly in regards to the unique handle. i have no problems cutting 5-8cm (2-3") branches with one stroke and virtually no damage to the edge. i haven't nicked it yet, but i've sharpened it twice in a week. this isn't unexpected to me, i've been playing around with it a lot. when i first unwrapped it, i sliced about 18cm (roughly 7") straight down into the edge of a hard plastic 5-gallon paint bucket with minimal effort and, like i said, zero damage to the cutting edge.Read more ›

I give the "katana machete" a two out of five stars because of the name. The only parts of the machete that resemble a katana is the very tip and the generous handle. Read morePublished 9 months ago by Bruce Allen Blakeney
