Excellent quality , very well made.
Anthony Mirante
It can function pretty well as a machete but a true machete will be more efficient as the long handle here gets in the way.
Perry
Whether it's chopping some weeds, bush ect. or would be great for chopping.

Alright first off this thing will not be sharpened properly when it arrives. Cold steel machetes are all like this. This is not a sword, and most certainly will not have blade presence like one. ... With that said this thing is greeeaat. The blade is one of the most sturdy MACHETES I have ever seen. The handle is extremely long, I think they did this to get the overall length somewhat near an actual katana and yet keeping the price within range, also the longer a thin blade gets the more fragile it becomes.
The katana machete let's you swing something akin to a sword without worrying bout losing a massive amount of money. If your thinking bout getting a beater "sword" this should be your first stop. Once you sharpen this bad boy up you can cut through most things without much trouble or fear of a broken blade. For the money, you can't beat it....If you just wanna let off some steam, cut some brush, make a video slicing through sides of beef, or preparing for the zombie apocalypse, this is the item for you.

If your expecting a sword for 25 dollars this will not be to your liking. If you want a very cool and scary machete with a long handle then this is what you should get. The blade is .113" thick, not .062" as some have mentioned and is very stiff. The working edge can be sharpened further if one desires. The long handle makes for a lot of mechanical advantage or leverage which makes this a formidable chopper/slicer. I am a metal worker and couldn't make anything this nice for the this price. This machete seems more suitable as a weapon than for clearing jungle brush. After a day of use the blade looked good and held up very well. I feel that this machete is fairly indestructable and will last. I bought three because the price was so resonable.

I love my new Cold Steel Two Handed Katana Machete. Untill you hold it in your hands, you do not realize how effective this weapon can be. Its long handle allows you to generate great amounts of force that will cut thru whatever stands in your way.

The blade needed no sharpening or touching up, like some blades I have ordered from other places before. The medium carbon steel blade is easy to resharpen if you have a mishap and hit stone or bone. I can't wait for the sheath to arrive. It is sold seperately, but at a reasonable price. The sheath is also a back mount type. It would be a chore I believe to try and carry this item on your side.

The balance is very good on this tool also. Almost dead center of the overall length. I did wrap the handle in sports tape due to the sleek molded plastic handle. The handle is durable, but if wet could become a little slippery.

I purchased this item specificly as an apocalyptic tool and am very satisfied. I have become a big fan of the Cold Steel product line. This item is sure to please as a self purchase or as a gift.

for the price i was expecting something more along the lines of the junk you get at the fair made out of pot metal.

quite the contrary. i've swung this thing full power at all sorts of stuff without a single buckle bend or chip on the blade. holds an edge pretty good, came ready to use sharp.

it's much larger than it looks like in the picture.

very high quality item. prolly gonna buy a few more for man-presents for christmas this year.

... i just wanted to confirm a couple things, to emphasize everyone's main issues with it. this machete came sharpened, but nowhere near razor sharp as i believe the product description and a few of these reviews have stated. it's fine for the work that a machete is intended to do, but there is a small rolled edge burr on this blade way down against the guard and extending up about 10cm (3.5-4") before it smoothed out. i removed it with about six or seven cuts with my diamond stone. i wanted mine sharper, so i spent roughly fifteen minutes putting an edge that will shave hair with a couple strokes. it's by no means a razor's edge, but i plan on abusing this quite a bit.
... as for the usefulness of this as a tool or a weapon, i agree that it's not perfectly suited to either. conversely, i love the design for being more of a hybrid of the two. i'm in love with this machete's grip. +1 on wrapping it, but i chose a very thin paracord because i didn't want to add much girth or weight to the handle, as it's thick and already satisfactorily balanced if i want to throw it. i'd say it's more suited as a weapon, but well suited for cutting larger brush/branches. because the blade isn't extra wide at the tip, this requires you to know or learn how to hold this machete properly in regards to the unique handle. i have no problems cutting 5-8cm (2-3") branches with one stroke and virtually no damage to the edge. i haven't nicked it yet, but i've sharpened it twice in a week. this isn't unexpected to me, i've been playing around with it a lot. when i first unwrapped it, i sliced about 18cm (roughly 7") straight down into the edge of a hard plastic 5-gallon paint bucket with minimal effort and, like i said, zero damage to the cutting edge.

One of Cold Steel's concepts of a "machete", ...its BETTER than a mere machete!

This one is modeled on the standard Ninja-to sword that a Ninja might carry. Thats exactly what it is, an inexpensive and very sturdy short-sword with a blade forged from 1055 steel. I have the version with the 24 inch blade. Its a very solidly constructed piece of cutlery, with a fairly good edge, right out of the box. Not only is this item a high quality brush-cutting tool, it has great potential as a battlefield-tool. I would issue this to Marine Corps Force Reconaissance teams deploying in jungle areas. Watch the Cold Steel cutting demonstrations to see the true potential!

Cold Steel never leaves me disappointed!
