Product Description

Since our Italian Long Sword is light and well balanced enough to use in one hand we thought we'd offer a companion dagger to take the place of a shield, targe, or buckler. Scaled down in size but almost identical in appearance, its sharply tapered, double edged blade slightly favors attacks with the point over the edge and is stiff and strong enough to parry any sword.

I just got this sword and it is absolutely wonderful. Any procurer of sharp and pointy things will know what I mean when I say this sword "just feels right." This sword is solid. You can tell just by holding it that it's a durable, quality piece of work. Having been collecting swords for quite a while I can say that I've never seen a sword in this price range that has this high level of quality. It is absolutely superb.

The grip is firm with no looseness in the wrap, though the leather does feel like coat material rather than what I am accustomed to in a sword handle. This is actually a good thing. Sweaty hands (lets face it, if you're using a sword for any length of time, your hands are going to become sweaty) are absolutely not an issue. Your grip is always sure and I have experienced no dangerous slippage as I have in other swords.

The sharpness is pretty much as advertised. I haven't tried to slice a pig in half, but I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't have much of a problem with it. That cardboard box was certainly sad that it was ever corrugated. :) I experienced no crush as one would with a dull sword, just a plain and satisfying "ZIP!" as it sliced neatly through.

This sword is, as it says in the title, LONG. It's somewhat hard to visualize it just from reading off the measurements. This sword is very impressive the first time you unsheathe it. The balance is phenomenal, resulting in no ungainliness whatsoever. I'm only 5'6" and I can handle it with absolutely no problem.

Overall, I would say that this sword is worth every penny. It is imbued with the quality that I am coming to expect and love from Cold Steel.

I love this sword. Its high quality, style, balance and weight make this a solid effective sword at a great price. As noted by another reviewer: it is long with a 35.5" blade and 9" handle (including the pommel). However, the total weight is only 2.63 lbs which makes it one of the lighter swords in this class and price range. It handles very well and I totally agree with the reviewer who said: this sword "just feels right".

This sword has the characteristics of a practical effective fighting weapon. This opinion is based on the fact that its weight, balance and dimensions are similar to my current training sword. For example the balance point is 5 inches down the blade from the cross guard, whereas my current training sword has a balance point 4 inches from the cross guard. While this is a long sword my current training sword is actually 1.5" longer with a blade length of 37" vs. 35.5" for this sword. The 9" handle on this sword is fairly common and I have used the 9" hilt on my training sword for one and two handed grips, blocking with the hilt and other martial techniques.

The diamond shape of the blade has a fairly flat profile so I believe this sword is effective against not only light and heavily armored opponents but also unarmored adversaries.

I train with two Western European sword groups and four of my instructors and five experienced students liked the balance, construction, quality and the general feel of this sword. For over a year I've been looking for my first combat sword. This excellent sword was worth the wait.

I just rcvd my Cold Steel Italian Long Sword and am very pleased. After watching the YouTube videos from Cold Steel, I had high expectations for this sword. I'm happy to say that they've delivered a custom quality sword at a production piece price! Beautifully, balanced and solid as a rock while being razor-sharp--an excellent weapon....I think any knight of the middle ages would have been proud to take this sword into battle. I don't think you'll find any better sword for the money--a great value.
The only downside was the skimpy shipping packaging from Amazon--I've already left them a note about that.....luckily the sword arrived unharmed.

This is an exquisite blade for a swords man who favors the stabbing or half sword techniques. my only problem with the it is the one i was sent had a small blemish on the blade about a third of the way up. Other than that it is a strong blade the cross guard makes a almost as wicked weapon as the blade. It is a very well rounded sword it can slash effectively as well. I suggest this blade to quick swordsman this not a brute weapon

This is exactly as advertised, a sharp, functional longsword. I have not yet done any test cutting, but I have swung the blade and tested the "spring" effect expected of a real blade and this is the real deal. The sword has nothing as far as decoration goes, except for the brilliant polish, and this is exactly what one would expect of a functional blade. I am very satisfied with the product.

Well constructed, and light in the hands, this longsword is as good as it gets. This sword is getting a lot of use in cutting practice. It holds up extremely well, and the steel is quality. It's a good looking weapon, if that matters to you, and its quickness will surprise you. It pairs easily with buckler, or with Cold Steel's excellent matching dagger. You may buy this one with confidence.

I received my sword a couple days ago and I am absolutely pleased with my order. It performs just as i expected from a cold steel sword, annihilating almost anything you could put in front of it. I haven't had any pigs lying around to chop up unfortunately, but from my own little tests with boxes and water bottles, I wouldn't doubt it's capable of such feats. This sword is as beautiful as it is functional. It features a wider blade at the base than what is featured in the picture. I was actually pleased by this. This is not a delicate weapon at all. It is just as capable of taking off one's head as it is punching a hole through one's chest. I did choose this sword over cold steel's hand and a half sword simply by aesthetic appeal. In my opinion it is a more elegant weapon, but I'd imagine it's no less deadly. My only complaints against it are minor and were easily remedied, but are worth mentioning nonetheless. When I got the sword, there was a large spot of rust near the tip. I easily removed it with Hopp's gun solvent, but it still bothered me, being uncharacteristic of cold steel's quality. What also bothered me was the looseness of the guard, but I quickly fixed that by wedging a small piece of metal in between the guard and blade, and it hasn't given me any trouble since. I ordered the sword from red's gear, and I'm going to assume they got the sword from cold steel as a factory 2nd, which would explain the sub standard quality. (You can get this sword directly from cold steel, but at double what you'd pay here.) I wouldn't say this should discourage anyone interested in buying this sword, as it is absolutely a delight to swing around in the back yard and cut things, but I would encourage you to be mindful of who you purchase it from
