Cold Steel Super Edge Kraton Handle, (Serrated Secure-Ex Sheath)

This is part of my first experience with Cold Steel products. Not wanting to drop major bucks before I became familiar with the company's quality, I selected a few items I could use but would not be hazardous to my budget if they were flops.

If this is an example, I need not worry.

First, no surprises by the small size. That's what the catalog stated, that's what I wanted and that's what I got.

Second, the sheath is unique and does secure the blade against accidently dropping out, but there is no safety strap to prevent it from being pulled out. Given the purpose of this knife, this is not a drawback. It is supposed to be an easily accessible utility knife, not a tactical knife.

Third, the good stuff. The blade is wonderful. For a few quick tests, I threw a piece of paper in the air, pierced it and sliced through it cleanly. The last part is important as it shows the blade is sharp! To test something a little more durable, I sliced up an expired credit card. No problem. Afterwards, the blade still cleanly sliced through paper.

If this an example of the quality of their low end blades, I can only imagine what their high end blades must be like. I'm going to live with my initial order a while while I drool over their offerings.

This knife is extremely sharp out of the box; it passes the paper test with no problem, and cuts through most materials with little-to-no effort. The handle is small but durable, and the checkered grip gets wider and forms a tang that 1) prevents the knife from falling out of the sheath, and 2) helps prevent your fingers from sliding up across the blade when thrusting. My only complaint is that after a relatively light cutting chore (cutting up a small cardboard box), the edge about 1/8 inch down from the tip chipped (but still remained fairly sharp). I sent it back to Cold Steel, and they promptly sent me a new one. The new one was equally sharp out of the box, but the first tooth of the serrated edge broke off (but again, remained very sharp). I would recommend this knife to anyone who needs a small knife for light-to-moderate cutting chores, or a secondary or tertiary blade for outdoor use or self-defense.

I got this knife because I've been wanting a sturdy, small and very sharp blade for utility use (especially cutting through those obnoxious clear plastic oversized clamshell packages everything seems to come packed in nowadays), and this fits the bill. It lives in my top kitchen drawer and gets reached for regularly for all sorts of cutting and piercing tasks. My only con is that the handle could be a little stouter, but this was a good buy.

Really effective for its size. I use this knife almost everyday whether it is opening boxes at work or cutting stuff around the house. It did start to get dull around 2-3 months of daily usage but I got a sharpener for it and it is as sharp as when I first got it. It really is a handy tool for small cuts of course.

Knife is very small and very lightweight...almost funny when you first see it, but when you cut with it you start to get an idea that this little dude could come in very handy as a lightweight utility neck knife out for a day hike or around your camp. Can't ever see using it everyday or ever on a keychain. But hey, that's my personal opinion. I guess it depends on what kind of work you do everyday. If you're cutting cardborad or rope/heavy twine on a regular basis this thing would do the trick. That said, i wouldn't pay more for it than the 15 bucks I did. Nice knife and good steel, you won't even know you have it on you (a good thing) and it's handy in a limited way, as long as you know what you're getting it for, you'll probably be very happy with it mainly b/c it serves its purpose very well. The handle is well done and has a secure grippy feel, but for normal sized hands only reaches to the base of your middle finger. Might consider putting a small 2" lanyard/fob on the end to give you more grip. The sheath seems solid and is one piece of molded hard plastic and is durable. The knife snaps/locks into place with a small click, and doesn't seem like it could come out on its own. Overall, pretty good deal with free shipping.

A great knife! Very small but very useful from utility use to serious self defense situations.
There are alot of complaints about losing the knife from it's sheath though the knife is so inexpensive and easily replaced
A minor problem that can be remedied easily>

1) heat water* to or near boiling in a glass or ceramic cup
2) remove knife from sheath
3) put the sheath into the water for a few minutes
4) remove sheath with one of the pliers
5) while removing it from the water, position the other pliers so you can slightly pinch the open end of sheath
and hold it there while dipping into a glass of cool water or under a faucet of cool water. try not to deform
the sheath too much.
This will improve the sheaths secure hold when done carefully and correctly. It may take a few times to acheive your desired result.
*(using microwave can cause water surface retention to boil over violently when inserting/removing an item)

I watched cold steel's video on this product and it arrived exactly as they had portrayed it. I would rather not have any serrations on it because there is no point in having serrations on a utility blade but I knew it would be like this prior to ordering it.

This Cold Steel Knife is really a small knife that probably would not do much in self defense. However, it does seem to be a perfect utility knife to have in your vehicle. Super Sharp right out of the package and it does stay locked in the sheath very nicely! Would recommend this product to a friend.

i'm just starting to carry my super edge today. it's so lightweight and tiny you may wonder if it's useful. but then you test the sharpness and you mwill be impressed. also watch cold steel clips on youtube. it seems to be a good self defense knife if attacked by an unarmed adversary or when wrestling on the ground. the handle makes the difference when you compare it with other knives of this size i would probably even use it as a push knife. still wonder how i can sharpen the thing if i ever need to.

This has got to be one of the most durable knives I have ever owned, and thats saying something! I have used this knife to open cans of chili without noticable wear to the blade/sharness, no joke. Ive never had it fall out of its sheath, even after dropping and accidentally kicking. Most excellent knife
