5.0 out of 5 stars Great All Purpose Knife
I've had many knives and this one is in my two favorites. It is a good size to carry in jeans. The lock back is sure and the edge is both easy to sharpen and stays sharp. It is easy to get a razor edge with a Lansky sharpening kit and a steel. For normal use, it is possible to retain a razor edge with a steel for several weeks.

I frequently give this knife...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I purchased the Coldsteel 29MT directly from Coldsteel at nearly twice the price.

In comparison to an SOG Flash II that I own this knife is quite disappointing. The overall size, blade design, weight and feel of the 29MT is fairly nice. It's not a huge knife so it's not very bulky, nor is it a tiny blade. For everyday uses I find the overall package very...

This review is from: Cold Steel Medium Voyager, Zytel Handle, Tanto Point, Plain 29MT (Misc.)

I frequently give this knife as a gift.

I did have one that failed. The blade snapped while prying a vine from a tree. It was a very small vine and I was using minimal force. Cold Steel replaced it without any questions.

I've had serrated versions of knives but I prefer the plain edge for the Voyager I carry for daily use.

I used to be able to find this knife for about $40. Now it is more expensive. I'd still buy another one. I have several Cold Steel knives. They are all great.

For everyday uses I find the overall package very nice.

The big disappointment was with the action and closing mechanism, especially when compared to my SOG. This knife is very difficult to open even if you give it a hard "flick." In most cases it requires two hands to open. The SOG on the other has the patented S.A.T. spring assistance and is effortless to open with only a slight movement of my thumb.

Closing the knife again proves difficult with the Coldsteel also requiring two hands. The break is on the back of the handle and requires two hands to release the blade. The SOG's release is located perfectly and is easily operated by your thumb, provided your a righty, allowing one handed operation.

If you need a good knife that has easy and reliable one handed operation I would recommend an SOG Flash series over the Coldsteel 29MT.
