5.0 out of 5 stars People seem to miss the point of this knife
All the other reviews here seem to have the wrong idea about what this is actually made for. It's not made to slice, dice, or be a general pocket knife. No push dagger is, and especially not the nightshade series. If people want a self defense knife that's also functional, I'd recommend a benchmade black class, namely their Presidio. As far as the nightshade push blade...

3.0 out of 5 stars it's okay
This knife is okay. I like the light weight since I'm already hauling around enough gear. This knife is basically a prison shank that looks good. Only has one use which is apparent by the material it's made of. I tested it on a magazine and the point bent. I will no longer use this until I need it as my last ditch weapon.

As far as the nightshade push blade. it's meant to be ultra lightweight (which is is) concealable (totally is, thin, and undetectable save for a pat-down) and strong enough to go into someone if it's absolutely necessary (definitely is.) For it's intended purpose, it's amazingly well built, and the great part is that it doesn't need a cumbersome sheath. 5/5

The really scarry thing about the negative reviews on this product is that I have a really hard time believing that anyone of the authors will be able to maintain the calm, mental attitude required in order to successfully use this knife. I aggree 100% with J. Madeira's review (See above).

In addition to mental strength When was the last time you pushed or pulled any weight? because you can't just pull this thing out and wave it around. It's going to take a little strength to use it properly.

Weapons aren't threats and you don't pull them out or carry them unless you have every intention of using 100% of said weapon correctly. This isn't a movie set...it's real and there are real conequences.

If you are looking for a simple self defence device which is light, durable and relatively safe at a really affordable price, then this push blade fits the bill... I purchased it for my sister and it turned out to be a little bigger than what i expected. However, the tip is quite sharp and will remain so, unless u r planning to scratch it against a wall... My advice, keep the blade sharp by not trying to use it against hard surfaces and learn how and where to use it... it is easy to carry around, especially with the key ring (which can be used for safer gripping by wrapping it around the thumb).

Good buy for defence and in the right hands it can be a mean little offensive weapon as well!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Safer around children than a knife., September 24, 2009

Obviously, this is meant to be a weapon and not a knife per se. As the name indicates, it is for pushing/stabbing, not slashing. The edge is definitely sufficiently sharp to do some serious stabbing and maybe some slashing with enough force applied. Perhaps the best thing about this is that you can keep it tucked under a mattress, pillow or elsewhere and its going to be a lot more difficult for someone (a child) to inadvertently cut themselves on it. You can safely rub a finger along the edge and you are not going to cut yourself. The probability of accidental impalement or cutting might not be any more than that of a pen/pencil.

Given the comparative safety, a sheath is not really necessary and for the close concealment scenarios I have described, you probably wouldn't want it sheathed anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars I own Several nightshade series blades from cold steel, January 23, 2012

DO NOT EVERY TRY TO CARRY THIS OR ANY WEAPON ON A AIRPLANE....

This is my second favorite NON Metallic Blade. The Best on I have ever found is the "Cold Steel Delta Dart". These are both Stabbing weapons to carry when you want something that is non metallic and is a cheap throw away. If you test this out on wood or phone books you will be unimpressed. If you want to test it buy 2 of them! and stab a brisket! This is a Use it once and throw it away tool. Keep that in mind.
Be smart! Be Safe!

I bought this as a light concealable hideaway for my purse and my body and/or my car. Its made of some fancy pants plastic that feels cheap. If I had my picks of self defense weapons than this wouldn't even fall into the top 100. If I were alone, in a bind, and this fell from the sky into my hands I'd be grateful. Does not come with a sheath... while its not sharp enough to actually cut into anything it can stab... Cold Steel should reconsider and send this with at least something to secure it in...

This push knife is made of FGX, which is a type of plastic that is pretty strong. However, it's not REALLY strong, and more importnatly doesn't hold a fine edge. Because of this, you could stab with this, but you could not use it for slicing. For example I would never even try to use this for cutting cucumbers or trukey, but maybe stabing a turkey...? Some things you shouldn't do with this: take it on a plane, into a courtroom, into the pentagon, or anyother place that weapons are not allowed. So, I hope you enjoy your fake knife and have a real good life, but if you really need to save your life in defense, I would buy a metal push knife instead.

Sam
