4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome training and less-lethal self defense tool!
This is a pretty cool device. It's made of an extremely hard resin and is very durable. This works great a training, physical compliance or less-lethal self defense tool. It is rather lightweight, but it is still enough to fit in your pocket, but large enough to get the job done. The larger model, (the SD2) has a rounded dome at either end versus the somewhat more...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mini Koga
Solid build and seems fairly strong but lighter than I would have preferred. It should hold up against impact well however. I have been feeling it out and I believe I would be comfortable using this. My only complaint is that I wish it had more mass.

The larger model, (the SD2) has a rounded dome at either end versus the somewhat more pointed ends of this SD1. (Note that it's not completely pointed and will not easily puncture material; at least without some extra force :) ) Overall a great device!

This is an inexpensive, simple to use defensive tool.
Small and light enough to carry loose in a pocket - simple enough to employ under stress. (Get a good grip on it, then stab hard at whatever you can reach.)

This is obviously NOT some "miracle" device that makes the owner invinceable - but it CAN be a usefull option in some situations.

Cold Steel has been making good stuff for several years.

The Koga, along with a Kuboton is a great tool for teaching women defensive tactics in what has become a more dangerous world. Used properly, it can save a life, although situational awareness is most important.

4.0 out of 5 stars A simple and effective self-defense tool., February 1, 2011
This review is from: Cold Steel SD2 Mini Koga (Sports)
I have taught Yawara stick techniques and the use of the Mini-Baton for law enforcement people for more than twenty five years. I am interested in all types of hand-held yawara sticks. I am also quite familiar with the Kubaton and the Monadnock Persuader baton models. I bought and used both the Cold Steel SD1 and the SD2 Mini-Yoga weapons. I found this smaller model more practical to carry because of its weight and size. Even though it is very light, the material it is made from is very strong. In spite of some reviewers complaining about the gripping surface design, I found it easy and comfortable to grip. I pounded both ends of this weapon hundreds of times against hard surfaces and found it to be a very durable tool.

In conclusion, if you are seeking a simple and efficient self-defense weapon that is very reasonably priced, you will like the SD2 Mini-Koga baton.

5.0 out of 5 stars Koga SD2 Self Defense Tool, November 6, 2010

It really is lightweight and you can really get a good grip on it compared to say a kubaton that was made out of a broom stick. The shape of it is ergo dynamic and will allow you to hold it closer to one end without sacrificing too much grip. You can look up videos on youtube of some guy piercing some pieces of plywood, which should mean that hitting someone with it will likely leave them bruised pretty badly, or at least run enough pain through them (if contact is made on an area with bone near the skin) to allow you to run off (it's self defense not offense).

It will nick over time, although I feel that most plastics would if hit with enough force. Breaking it, at least with two hands is not achievable (at least not by my friends who I bet wouldn't be able to break it), but again, it will probably break with enough force.

Since Pressure = Force/Area , the pointed (albeit, rounded) ends will multiply the damage done to whatever is on the receiving end.

I'll update this review if anything changes.

it's a tricked out kubaton, P=F/A (pressure equals force over area), all it does is concentrate the blow, very well built, I just hope I never have to use it, I want to live my life in peace, but it is good to know you can have this extra layer of security, no complaints with merchant, great tool for soft targets..

In environments where self defense options are limited, this device is a nice option to have. I've carried mine through court house security without incident. It helps if you've had some martial arts training with six inch sticks or something similar. As far as I can tell, this thing is unbreakable and effective.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light, lethal defense tool., June 13, 2010
This review is from: Cold Steel SD2 Mini Koga (Sports)
I carry this in my front pants pocket when I go into Mexico. Mostly for defense against muggers and drug addicts. A forceful blow with this anywhere on the human body will cause excruciating pain, particularly on areas with little fat and superficial skeletal features. Would work great for grappling too. And in combination with pepper spray.

4.0 out of 5 stars good massage tool, September 25, 2010
This review is from: Cold Steel SD2 Mini Koga (Sports)
The Koga SD2 is an effective massage tool for treating my pinched sciatic nerve. :-)

It's roughly half the mass of the SD1, just to give perspective to pics you may have seen. I took away one star because it "looks" like an effective weapon, which sucks for me because I'm using the SD2 for massage therapy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pocket friend, January 10, 2011
This review is from: Cold Steel SD2 Mini Koga (Sports)
I purchased this for work. I usually carry the comtech stinger, but i always like to try new products. This is considerably larger than a kubaton. I wanted something to hold in my gloved hand that couldnt be easily viewed, this is not it. Its long enough where it protrudes prominetly while being held. Other than that its a great product, feels solid and i have no doubt it would working if i decided to deploy some hammer fists, or pressure. But it, its a great tool.
