When I first got the knife, I looked it over, and I started to compare it with my Tokyo Spike when I first received that in the mail. It came razor-sharp and the sheath, after working it in with a few insertions and removals, became easy to handle, much more so than when I first received my Tokyo Spike. I tested penetration between the two and the Scimitar outdid the Tokyo, though to be fair, I was using the bubble-wrap pack that the Scimitar arrived it. Needless to say that, while the whole Spike series shines, the Scimitar is the main attraction. With a point designed to easily penetrate, and a curved edge ideal for laying long slices into whatever you need to, the bead chain makes it a perfect EDC knife when you're walking around. Whether for self-defense or for house chores, superior cutting and piercing in an uberlight package makes this one of the best neck knives you can get, and at a decent price. As for delivery, despite giving the wrong address (we recently switched from our home mailbox to a PO Box) I still received the knife within 4 or 5 days. Should I want another knife for my collection, I will definitely consider this dealer.

I absolutely love this knife. This should be a movie knife as it is stylish and effective. Its small stature makes this easily concealable and its toughness allow this to be a stabbing or slashing weapon. Out of the box it was sharp but a 2 minute sharpening session and this is very very sharp and one will need to be careful as this could require stitches if one is not careful. I will order one for the wife for personal protection and maybe look at the rest of the series and get another style for myself.

this knife is sure to impress any one at first sight itself. just want to point out a few things about this knife 1)this is not a easy knife to carry as an EDC (atleast for me) because i do not carry any of my knives as neck knives and this is a bit long to fit in pants pocket. 2) many states have specific laws regarding a dagger. this is not exactly a dagger but it could be classified as a dagger if the DA so desires ( a portion of spine is sharp too). 3) you can definetly use this knife in a self defense situation if you so desire ( blade is sharp, point can pierce without much effort and the shape of the blade will definitely make it work as a decent slasher and the thick part on the spine of the blade near the tip will ensure that whoever got pierced is going to bleed a lot) but you will have a very hard time defending yourself in the court, because all the jury is going to see is a wicked looking devilish blade.( even though it is not a huge knife the purpose of the blade is very clear from the "looks" of the blade)
i knew exactly what i was getting ( and this blade is for my collection) but the handle is too thin ( for my hands anyway) and the grooves to put your thumb is to the sides. the cord wrapping is done neatly and tightly and it does give this knofe a charecter of its own, but some people may not like it. ( i love it and i usually cord wrap all my fixed blades). i am not an expert on blade materials, but i understand that the blade material is not one of the top quality( actually from what i have gathered, it is a base quality) but this is no way a defect because of the primary use of this blade ( as a slasher or stabbing blade it will work exceedingly well regardless of the blade material).
things i absolutely love about this knife are the looks, the wicked sharpness and the quality that comes with a cold steel product. ( i do have a few cold steel knives that i actively use and love and so far they have never failed me eventhough most of them took a great beating)
overall this is going to be a sweet buy ( and price is good too). i surely recommends this knife.

I am very pleased with the knife. Hard to carry on the belt because of the length. Other then that, a very high quality knife.

i really like this knife and it got here fast.


pros:this knife is pretty and came really sharp right out of the box. i love the shape of it, it looks lethal and deadly. like i said before and cant stress enough it's really sharp and the tip is as well. this knife is actually bigger and longer than i thought it was i thought it was going to be small but i was dead wrong it has nice size to it. i love the sheathe as well the knife snaps into there and is held sturdy. i like the little chain too it's not that cheaply made and frail like i thought it was going to be. the cord wrapped around the handle makes it look bad-ass in my opinion this adds to that lethal look. i bought this as a secondary knife i like how you can easily conceal it even though its my secondary weapon ( my primary is the combat commander boot knife) it'll still do as much damage and is just as sharp if not sharper !

I love this knife. It was razor sharp right out of the box and is balanced enough that a light throw drove it through a collapsed heavy cardboard box (one designed for storing clothes on hangers), the point of the knife sticking 1 1/2 - 2 inches out of the other side.

The Securex sheath has great retention and is ideal for attaching, inverted, to a tac vest or pack. Although advertised as a neck knife on the Cold Steel website, I personally find it a bit too long to be used as one and I am 6 feet tall.

All in all this is a great knife for the money. I would and have already recommended it to my friends.

I bought this knife for the wife. It does chores very well like cutting open boxes, letters, and such. The steel maintains an edge well. The handle is a bit small, especially for large hands, however it's slimness and lightweight make it handy in many situations and it has thumb traction on the back of the blade to aid in the grip. It's actually more comfortable with a reverse grip providing a nice grasp on the ball with the thumb. The sheath has held it securely so far and it's been worn as a neck knife a time or two with out any trouble or discomfort.

I was hesitant to buy this knife, wondering if I really needed it or if I should just wait until I go down to Baja and look for a cheap knife. I received it yesterday and was pleasantly surprised. Very nice. It's light, fits and locks into its plastic type sheath very well. The sheath has slots and eyelets allowing you to fasten it in various locations easily. The shape of the knife with the arched handle and the ball at the end offer an excellent grip. I'm very happy I decided to buy this and highly recommend it!

I ordered a Cold Steel "Scimitar Spike" (model 53SS) from "Poor Fish" and I'm certainly glad I did! This knife is truly the work of a great designer, plus "Poor Fish" shipped the item much quicker than expected. The knife is VERY substantially constructed, a handy everyday multi purpose tool that is easy and comfortable to grip securely, and it was obviously manufactured with utmost attention to detail. I have literally gone over the knife and sheath with a magnifying glass and I cannot discern any imperfections in this under three ounce masterpiece. Such a handy and useful tool can quite literally mean the difference between life and death in an emergency situation and I can see now it will be a close and trusted friend for many years to come. This is a beautiful piece of stainless steel sculpture. I use it to butter my toast in the morning and to cut my steak at night. It feels good in the hand and is certainly scary looking.
It is, however, difficult to carry. It's too long for pocket, neck, or belt with the supplied sheath. Not a problem because the handle is too dainty for doing chores like the Applegate Covert I have been using for years as a money clip. The edge requires constant dressing as it dents easily , but it it makes a great table knife.
