5.0 out of 5 stars An Epic Buy.
This knife comes razor sharp out of the box. So sharp in fact, that my mom was about to make me ship it back (Im 15). This knife can serve as a throwing knife or to just add to your collection. It has a big handle and the balance point is where the handle ends towards the blade itself. I seriously reccomend buying this knife.

2.0 out of 5 stars Came sharp, broke quick.
Came insane sharp and was a very well balanced knife. Is MUCH bigger than I anticipated, and one bad angle throw bent the tip 90*. Was a decent knife before it broke- could of been attributed to user error!

5.0 out of 5 stars good knife for the price, May 24, 2010
This review is from: Cold Steel Shanghai Shadow Knife (Sports)
Pros:
shaving sharp
1055
cheap
decent for throwing

cons:
very minor cosmetic imperfections

For the price this knife is great. Its 1055 high carbon steel which is a good thing, most stainless steels sacrifice strength, toughness, and edge retention for rust resistance. Out the box it was shaving sharp. I easily cut some 20oz coke bottles filled with water with out knocking them over and I can even get multiple cuts out of a single bottle. It throws reasonably well, but the ring makes it feel a bit awkward when throwing. I was able to get it to stick into plywood with out much difficulty. The sheath is nothing special but it works well enough.

This knife is extremely sharp.Make no mistake Cold Steel has done it again... Not a show piece but a work horse this is one of those knives that you would take to get it done or you would want in a dark alley in lieu of a firearm. What ever encounters this steel is going out for the duration. And the quality for the price is incredible.Only one thing that bothers me the sheath seems to be cut a bit short and tight it all fits snug but a bit to snug when re-sheathing the knife if you go to far it hits the rivet on the inside so you must take care to remember where to stop if your anal like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great knife for what it is, January 4, 2011
This review is from: Cold Steel Shanghai Shadow Knife (Sports)
As others have said, this knife came extremely sharp (hair shaving) right out of the box. It has a sturdy construction and a well done matte black finish. When used properly, this knife is a must have. However, it is important to know it's uses.

The Shanghai Shadow is a large double edged blade which makes it great for offensive attacks. The condition it comes in also makes it a good knife to show off to friends due to it's fairly large size and pure cutting ability. With that said, only use it for that. Indeed, it makes a fun throwing knife close range, however because it is double edged the tip breaks very easily (First or second throw on hard wood) and because it is so thin it flexes on impact to almost a 45 degree angle. Also, if thinking of it as a combat knife, keep in mind that the blade has a very oblong shape and is very flexible, making it almost impossible to defend with. In short:

DO: Use it to impress friends and attack enemies (large, double edged)

DO NOT: Use it for throwing (ruins the blade easily) or defensive knife combatants (gets you killed, beyond the fact that you're trying to defend yourself from a knife WITH a knife. That's silly)

Do not let the price, nor the fact that this is made in China fool you.
Cold Steel delivers yet again with another great product.

The SS is a great thrower, a great spear-point, and an awesome cutter. In outdoor situations you may want a single edge knife for whittling tinder down or cutting brush, but if you need to survive, You'd do good with an SS at your hip opposite, say, a Bushman or GI Tanto. I own all three, and I keep them close.

The sheath is tight, and retains the blade even when shaken upside down, but still allows for an easy draw even without a secondary attachment point on the thigh.

In my day to day this is perhaps the most impractical thing I own, but once I start thinking about the crazy 'what if' situations, I know I'm going to be glad to have it.

These knives are awesome. They are razor (hair-shaving) sharp out of the box. Great price. Sturdy blades. The only thing i didnt like is that the snaps on the sheaths began to fray other than that I would highly suggest you buy them. Its money well spent :D
