5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT
This is by far the sharpest knife I have ever owned. The blade is at the perfect length and the G10 handle gives great traction in your hand. The clip is reversible and connects at the end of the knife so it does not stick out of your pocket. When I purchased it I twisted up a t-shirt about wrist width and ran the knife through it.It cut it like butter. The only negative...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good not Great
This knife came with a good edge but it was uneven. The Teflon on the blade is terrible it comes off or gets damaged even cutting fruit. It does not hold an edge very well at all I had to resharpen mine after only 2 weeks of use. I love the handle on this knife and the Locking system leaves no worry. The edge is easy to quickly hone back to razor sharp. The bottom line...

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT, September 15, 2010
This review is from: Cold Steel Recon 1 Tactical Knife with G-10 Handle Tanto Point with Black Blade, ComboEdge (Sports)
The only negative thing is that the coating of the blade can be damaged fairly easily. The coating on mine knife is coming off because it is rubbing the inside of the grip where the blade is housed when closed. I would said if you need a durable knife and do not care about the coating I would get this.Great for self defense and everyday tasks. This is the newer version of the Recon 1 which is the better of the two. The older one does not have as good of locking system, is thicker and heavier and the clip is not in a great spot.If you decide on the Recon 1 make sure you dont get the older version.

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite, January 19, 2011

I own many knives and this folder is definitely my favorite. As already mentioned its very very sharp and holds its edge well.It has a 4" blade and i wont hesitate on using it as a work knife when out camping...and a good self defense weapon to boot.

I got this folder as spare for the one i have, the only difference is the other folder doesnt have the serrated edge.I personally prefer the type without the serration for it works well cutting meat. For a knife with a 4" blade its actually lighter compared to my other folders with shorter blade.

Bottom line is you cant go wrong with Cold Steel..nice craftmanship even tho its made overseas.I prefer US made products but this knife is just too nice to pass up.Try one and you'll see what i mean.

5.0 out of 5 stars count your fingers!, September 1, 2011

Damn SHARP! Careful when closing that you do not catch your finger. Very light, good grip, sturdy. Now that you know, do not touch the sharp blade edge, test it on something other than your finger! See Deadliest Warrior video below on this knife used by the Navy SEALS.

lets start with its a sharp knife and its great the reviews about the lock being stiff its true but it just needs worked a bit (need to be stronger the average 6 year old , the paint comes off the blade its true but when your using a knife things like that happen. if your getting a knife cold steel is the only way to go

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Folding Knife for the Money, January 18, 2011

Folding knives are not especially well-suited as survival knives. That said, this is the perfect knife for day-to-day carry and - if necessary - it's one of the few folding knives that will see you home should you find yourself in a survival scenario. For the money, you cannot find a better folding knife. I keep one in my truck, one on my boat ... and one firmly attached to me whenever possible.

This is a very good knife. Very Very sharp and fit comfortly in your hand. I had to use a little more force in closing the knife, but after closing it a few times, (I got use to it).

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Knife, December 22, 2010
This review is from: Cold Steel Recon 1 Tactical Knife with G-10 Handle Tanto Point with Black Blade, ComboEdge (Sports)
Just got my knife today. I decide to buy this knife after reading the reviews on amazon.com. Overall very good knife. Very long blade, longer then I expected. The recon 1 fits well in my hand. And the blade is very sharp I know because I cut my self with it and needed stiches.

One problem with the knife, its hard to close and you have to push the lever just right, that's how I cut my self.

Cold Steel Recon 1 Tactical Knife with G-10 Handle Tanto Point with Black Blade, ComboEdge

Video review of the Cold Steel Recon 1 I just bought.

It's a great knife. Comes razor sharp out of the box, has a nice grip, a pocket clip, nice paint on the blade and is easy to open.

5.0 out of 5 stars sharper than my razor, December 25, 2010
This review is from: Cold Steel Recon 1 Tactical Knife with G-10 Handle Tanto Point with Black Blade, ComboEdge (Sports)
Wow this is a great knife! I just got it for CHRISTmas and it is by far the sharpest blade I have ever owned. I mean this thing is even sharper than my Gillette fusion razor! Also the way the knife folds makes it realy easy to flick open, just rip it out of your pocket and give it a flick and you have the best folding knife ever invented by man! This thing is solid as a rock and with Cold Steel's patented triad lock i would use and abuse this thing just as much or even more than one of my fixed blades. The only down sides are almost not even worth mentioning. The lock sticks every once in a while but im sure this will smooth out with use. Also the pocket clip needs to be loosened just a hair, it is kinda tough to get in and out of your pocket but this can be fixed in 15 seconds with a simple allan or star wrench. I have 2 other cold steel blades and by now im convinced that they are the best knives out there, they can be sharpened, hold a great edge through use and abuse, be resharpened and go hell and back again over and over again. All in all you cant go wrong with anything from cold steel but the Recon 1 is one of their best yet!

P.S.- if you are having any reservations about buying something from cold steel just go ahead and buy it i promise on my mothers life you will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars good knife, much different than the previous model..., September 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cold Steel Recon 1 Tactical Knife with G-10 Handle Tanto Point with Black Blade, ComboEdge (Sports)
i own two cold steel recons and this is the next generation. great feel in the hand. positive lock. good for forward and reverse grip use. main differences is the locking system (most obviously), the pocket clip and the handle materials. i've never had any failures with the locking system, except pocket fuzz and dirt getting in there which can be a problem. that may be a good design change. The old packet clip was longer. the newer model has a small clip and is curved. the jury is still out on that. i does seem to make the knife sit deeper in the pocket and be less conspicuous. there are no stainless steel liners underneath the handle scales like in past generations of this knife. does this worry me, no. its just different. i wonder if its just cheaper and easier to make (and hence charge you more). its still the same steel in the blade- AUS8 though made in taiwan (my first generation recon was made in japan). this new version does not come in a drop point like my past model did. i guess you have to buy the lawman knife for that blade. the tanto blade is efficient and strong. i got the combo blade for more versatility in cutting. the blade coating is excellent and wears well. i have a lot of cutting and years on my previous models. no complaints there either. the g10 is more aggressive than my older model and gives excellent positive purchase. i wonder if its because of how worn my older knife is because of use. i highly recommend this knife for a serious work/tactical/defense knife. cold steel always make great product.
