Hands down, one of my all time favorite James Brown records, "Cold Sweat" REALLLY needs to see a proper reissue treatment.
While I can agree that no record is worth $900.oo to an record buyer, this record is the peak of the best James Brown, and REALLY, REALLY, REALLY needs to be mor readily available to the general public, in a nice reissued, remastered, format ... I don't even care if there are no "bonus tracks" ... but of course, BONUS TRACKS would be fantastic. If someone asked me to recommend a JB record as their introduction, I think "Cold Sweat" would be a great jump-off point for a first timer ..... please, someone .. .REISSUE THIS RECORD ON A QUALITY, REASONABLY PRICED CD~

Back 'then' James Brown lead absolutely the BEST band, super 'tight.'
The vinyl only cost $3.98, then so at $899.99 just because the CD is from Japan, well it don't mean that it's any bargain. The records are reissued by Polydor, and are from $8.99 up depending on where it is found. The near $900.00 seems very high, so at the seller price I couldn't suggest or recommend someone pay out so much for 12 tracks even if they are performed by Mister Dynamite, James Brown, a truly outstanding American artist and performer. We love you J.B.!

ONE OF JB'S BEST ALBUMS, EVERY TRACK IS GREAT, ESPECIALLY WITH THE AWESOME SHM AUDIO FORMAT. MUST HAVE FOR ANY CD COLLECTION, BUT DON'T PAY THESE RIDICULOUS OVER-INFLATED PRICES, I BOUGHT MINE FROM THE MUSIC SPECIALIST ON E BAY, THEY ALSO HAVE A STORE IN GEMM, ANTEATERMUSIC. SAVE YOURSELF A TON OF CASH.
CHEERS!

DJ Shadow wrote on Endtroducing..... in 1996 that James Brown was the inventor of modern music. Depending on how you define that, there is a lot of truth to Shadow's statement
But Brown did this on 1960s AM radio, a singles medium, and it was not until the early 1990s that all of Brown's essential work--basically, the funk--was released on the Star Time boxed set. And for the most part, for a basic understanding of who James Brown was and why he was important, it is all you need. And good thing. The reams and reams of albums Brown released on King in the 1960s have been reissued in scattered fashion. But Star Time is not the total picture, and if you want to see more, you should hear these albums. For every funk invention, like the title track here, James Brown and The Fabulous Flames do standards like "Stagger Lee," "Nature Boy." Cold Sweat is filled with stuff like this. In general terms, it throws more back to R&B like "Please Please Please," than "Cold Sweat," that brand new bag Brown was inventing modern music with. Not to say that there is any filler here, or that this is the 1960s "album: trick of a great top forty single surrounded by crap. Brown and his band are just far to good to let this EVER happen., So you do want to grab all that you can of the King albums. You'll discover whole new sides to one of the most important artists of the 20th century. The only shame here is no one has had the sense to properly reissue this material. If anyone deserves it, this inventor does. |
