Oh, how I loved this book!,
By fjmcmm (Gardena, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cold Target (Mass Market Paperback)
This is, without a doubt, one of the the best romantic suspense novels I've read in a long time. The story grabs you at the beginning and takes you along for a wonderful page turning ride. I simply couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. It's suspenseful, romantic, and heartwarming with a good dose of retribution. I loved it.
This is the first time I've read a Patricia Potter novel and definitely won't be my last. She gets added to my favorite authors list. Once again...a lovely story that will keep you turning the pages.

An exhilarating romantic suspense,
This review is from: Cold Target (Mass Market Paperback)
After an intruder enters her home, Holly Mathews manages to kill him. However, she realizes the culprit needed help to break in as he disabled the security system by punching in the code and had the front door key. Concluding that her husband Randolph wants her dead, Holly flees her home taking their son Mikey with her. Holly relocates under the guise of a widow with a son Harry (for Potter), calling herself Elizabeth Baker in Brisbee, Arizona. Her dying mother informs Meredith Rawson that she has a half-sister, who she wants treated right by splitting a trust fund between them. Meredith confronts her father who is in denial. He, in turn, calls someone to warn them what occurred, but is told to fix it or else. Now someone wants Meredith dead with only Detective Gage Gaynor, working a cold murder case that ties to her powerful family, keeping her safe. COLD TARGET is an exhilarating romantic suspense with ever increasing tension as the half-siblings who did not know the other existed are in danger from powerful interests. Though the climax seems shaky, the story line moves at full speed so that the audience has quite a ride while waiting to learn the truth. The romance takes a somewhat back seat, yet is not neglected as readers receive an entertaining action-packed thriller. Harriet Klausner

This was my first book by Potter and it is a great one. I rushed to buy her others, they were not nearly as good. So to those of you that have read her before - be sure to buy this one. It will exceed your expectations.

A pleasant surprise!,

This is the first novel of Patricia Potter's novels that I've read, although I have browsed the covers of a few, but deemed them too far on the 'romance' scale for my liking.
This book was such a pleasant surprise. The suspense angle is really good, the story well told and interesting. I would definitely class this novel up with Tess Gerritsen, Lisa Garder, Lisa Jackson etc, and I'm hoping she'll concentrate more in the thriller/suspense/mystery genre in the future. It will certainly encourage me to take a further look at her other titles.

Nail biting suspense!!,

New Orleans socialite Holly Ames flees her home after killing the hit man sent to silence her with her toddler in tow. She reinvents herself as artist Liz Baker in a small southwestern town, trying to evade the husband and father who would betray her, and catches the eye of the local sheriff.
Across town, Meredith Rawson receives a deathbed request from her dying mother to find the child she was forced to give up. Her father asks her to drop the subject for her own good, then an attempt is made on Meredith's life, and soon she is plunged into the dark underbelly of politics and police corruption as she searches for her long-lost half sister with the aid of police detective Gage Gaynor. Soon, Holly's quiet existence is turned upside down as the good guys and bad guys converge to either rescue or silence her. There is plenty of nail biting suspense to keep you caught up in the plot until the very last page. Potter does a great job mixing romance with suspense and avoids the clunky dialogue to prevalent in romantic suspense and keeping the reader hooked for the outcome.

Good effort - I enjoyed the book but I still think, Broken Honor is her best work to date. Worth reading!!

Afraid of her powerful senator husband, Holly runs away with her son to Arizona. Leary of others and fearing her husband will find her she sets up a new life. Meanwhile, she tries to absorb the news from her dying mother that she has a half-sister somewhere and she needs to find her. What should she do?
There are two stories here: Holly and the sheriff, Randolph, and Gage and Meredith. Lots of twists and turns but Patricia pulls it off and it was tastefully done. I recommend this book!

I found this book, by an author whose name I had never heard, at an annual book sale. How thankful I am that I risked my $1 as I have now found an author I am excited about reading. Between the suspense and romance, Potter created a beautiful story of relationships. The suspense was well done; I was fearful for the character's safety throughout. Cold Target contains murders, but thankfully they are not graphically described as I am a wimp who cringes at descriptions of wounds and blood spray patterns. The multiple romances were very touching and the sex scenes too were not graphic. This is simply a great book start to finish. Thank you Patricia Potter for writing such a great novel, can't wait to read more.

This book is the first Pat Potter book's I have read. It is well written and usually entertaining, however, I did feel that it was very predictable. Does have a good mix of romanace and mystery. Worth the read if you are looking for a mystery/romamce/drama mix.
